Beyonce’s little sis, Solange, herself a Grammy winner Sunday night for her song “Cranes In The Sky” from A Seat At the Table, has weighed in on her sister’s Grammy snub. She says that it’s not just about Beyoncè, but about the continuous oversight of Black Grammy artists in the four major categories, including Album Of The Year. Even Adele, who did win for her album 25, didn’t think she should have won.

People.com reports:

There have only been two black winners in the last 20 years for album of the year,” [Solange] tweeted Monday afternoon. “There have been over 200 black artist who have performed.”

Shortly after, she offered her social media followers a call to action, tweeting: “Create your own committees, build your own institutions, give your friends awards, award yourself, and be the gold you wanna hold my g’s.”

The posts aren’t the first time Solange — who won the best R&B performance Grammy for “Cranes in the Sky” — has appeared to weigh in on her sister’s snub. After the show, she tweeted “wuddup frank,” sharing a link to Grammy boycotter Frank Ocean‘s open letter to the show’s producers saying the annual awards suffer “cultural bias and general nerve damage.”

Solange later deleted all three of these posts on Monday evening, but she isn’t the only star to speak out against Adele’s win.
Other media outlets weighed in as well. Essence published this take, which said that Adele’s gracious nod to Beyoncè in her own acceptance speech reeked of white privilege. USA Today also co-signed a win for B, saying that Grammy voters simply made their choice based on Adele’s stronger sales for 25. And Time Magazine said her loss was indicative overall of the Grammy’s “problem” with validating Black artists instead of just exploiting them for ratings.
Another Time columnist said that the divas battle was a microcosm of racial problems overall, including the election of President Donald Trump
The night’s other heralded Black nominee, Rihanna, went home empty-handed despite eight nods (Drake and Kanye West also had eight; Kanye also went home empty-handed, while Drake won two awards) and a strong critically acclaimed and successful year with her album Anti.
Was Beyoncè robbed? Was Adele self-serving? Tell us what you think!

Adele won every award that she deserved! Everyone is NOT a fan of Beyonce and her ass shaking shtick. Some of us love hearing talented singers!

  3. The Queen Of The Bodysuit Brigade should realize that nothing lasts forever. Newer, bigger and better is always around the corner. In her case better rounded the corner a long time ago. It’s just that no one was willing to let her in on that little fact. A real life case of the Emperor’s New Clothes.

  4. There are far greater issues to be dealt with than “poor Beyonce” not winning an award!! My God, get over yourselves, put on some clothes, stop shaking your @#s and commit to eradicate the craziness that’s going on. And like FallMornings, I, too, listen to the oldies – – songs of love, harmony, telling life’s stories, and hearing and understanding the words coming from true gifts and talents. Take a lesson new-world performers!!

S.D. You are on target. Bey has won big time in the past, and this year someone else won more Grammys than she did. Bey is talented, successful and beautiful; she has made her mark in music, even if she retired tomorrow. She does need to learn to perform covered, however. Everyone knows what she looks like underneath, and what Jay sees everyday. She can perform just as great dressed in a formal floor length gown as she can in a bikini or lingerie. So Adele won big at the Grammys in 2017; but the award season for this year is not over.

The more we keep looking to predominantly White organizations for validation, the more we devalue ourselves and our cultural contributions. At the end of the day, these non-recognized or not properly recognized artists have contributed more and received more recognition than the majority of us can ever hope to imagine. So basically, STFU with all this BS complaining over nothing.

I agree with AA Woman. Really, upset because of an award!!! She’s cemented her name as an artist, GET OVER IT!!! I too listen to my oldies station in the morning. I can understand the words and no cursing or disrespecting women.

Oh give me a break! I was praying B lost! I don’t like her or her self serving husband. She wants too much attention. I hate her voice. She warbbles and I think she needs a myringotomy!!! I can’t listen to her. She’s a nice looking woman, killer body but that’s it for me. Her writers & producers should get all the accolades. She plays no instruments!! I would love to see her put on some clothes and stop spreading her legs all the time. So yeah Adele deserved to win. Gotta laugh though…B made a song about her HUSBAND CHESTING on her… so she got the best revenge…GET PREGNANT!! Yeah that’s smart… duh…Solznge has the better voice

Boo Hoo. She didn’t win. So tired of her. Whenever she doesn’t win an award people start crying racism. Its other talented people out there and its time for somebody else to win for a change. Surprised crazy ass Kanye didn’t show up and show out.

anytime black dont win its racist? damn, get a BET award and be happy. we are the only race of people who complain when the white man wont give us his award, reward or favor. disgusting….

    • angietangie on said:

So you are black Mac Ben!!! I figured you was. Talking all that shit about your own race while sitting behind the computer. You are pitiful, you are a disgrace to the black community.

      • Private on said:

I agree with Mac, let her wait for BET awards. I don’t know why they haven’t boycotted by now.

I don’t know what any of those people sing- I’ll listen to my oldies forever, but this sounds like a bunch of sore losers…get over it and stop whining…just because you think someone should have won doesn’t mean they will.

    • angietangie on said:

I agree with you African American woman they all need to get over it. it’s not like beyonce have never won anything. I love Adele, I like the way she sings and I listen to her music. I like beyonce as well but I don’t think it is a racial thing because she did not win album of the year..Geesh..I’m sure she will win again, again, and again. I do think Rihanna was stiffed out of a grammy. Now she deserves to win.

      @AAW
Girl you know I’d rather eat pickled pig feet than to agree with you LOL! (jk) but you’re dead on, not a Beyonce’ fan even though her older music was a lot better than this crap today. She is definitely not among the GREATs and her voice is mediocre at best (save it Behive, don’t come with the nonsense). Give me old school R&B and soul any day of the week, I’m good wit’ it!
P.S. I know y’all remember when she destroyed that song (Ledesi) from the Selma soundtrack, what a mess Lol!

  11. That’s why the blk community have the BET , and naacp image awards. Piss on these awards show. They aren’t geared towards the blk community anyway. They just like blk artist to perform and present. Whatever!!
