Dwayne Johnson started out as “The Rock,” a popular figure in professional wrestling, and his rock-hard body, charming persona and Hollywood good looks allowed him to seamlessly transition to Hollywood, where he’s now one of the most profitable action stars.

Will Smith previously held the titled, but Johnson is officially the highest paid actor in the world. According to Forbes Celebrity 100, the surprisingly versatile actor raked in $64.5 million, making him the big screen boss of Hollywood this year. Johnson attributed his rise to one thing: his extreme work ethic.

“Receiving news like this will always serve as my anchoring reminder to continue to work even harder,” the Central Intelligence actor said in his announcement on Instagram. “We not only want to ‘embrace the grind’, but take the grind to new levels.”

Dwayne describes his drive like that of a “wolf” scratching at the door. “[The wolf is] scratchin’ cause he’s hungry and never satisfied.”

During his reign in the WWE, the self-proclaimed “People’s Champion” won a total of 17 championships.

In addition to staring in “Central Intelligence” alongside Kevin Hart (who also made the Forbes list, earning $87.5 million), Johnson has several projects in the works, including yet another “Fast & Furious” movie. He’s also being courted by Universal to star in “The Wolf Man” for the studio’s Monsterverse franchise.

Johnson credits his success in the biz to the support he receives from the great people that he’s surrounded with.

“Greatness is never achieved alone,” he said. “Surround yourself with hungry, brilliant individuals who not only buy into your philosophy, but who are all willing to work just as hard as you. Power of teamwork.”

Congratulations to The Rock!
