Dating can be a total cesspool of “no’s” and “HELL no’s.” Between Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid, and random run-ins, it seems like the odds are stacked against us as we search through weeds for the one.

Luckily, there’s science to this sh*t. Scientists say there are certain steps you can take to put in odds in your favor. Here are a few tips for the dating hunger games:

Date As Much As You Can

If you’re shooting fish in a barrel, you’re bound to get one. That’s pretty much how dating should be. We get it, going on dates with a bunch of nobodies can be exhausting, but it increases your chances of scoring the evasive “one.” Psychologist Peter Pearson told Tech Insider people should “date as much as they can manage or tolerate.” The name of the game is figuring out what you like and don’t like, and that comes with options.

Have Fun

Findings compiled by the Evidence-Based Medicine group from Queen Mary University of London showed that people with group photos on their online dating profiles came across more attractive. So live your life, and document it in photos.

Oh, and about that mean mug: You may think it’s cute, but a serious photo won’t have suitors banging down your door. Researchers recommended a genuine smile in pictures.

The 70/30 Rule

Research says 70 percent of your dating profile should be about you, and the rest should be what you’re looking for in a partner.  The author of Quirkology: The Curious Science of Everyday Lives says if you’re profile is only focused on you, people perceive that as self-centered.

Drink Up, Seriously

Not here for awkward dinner conversations? Neither are we. Relationship experts think you should hit happy hour with your potential bae. According to data compiled by the website that owns Tinder and OkCupid, a grea first date involves a drink or two — not necessarily dinner and a movie. Maybe they only surveyed alcoholics? Or maybe we’re all a little more relaxed after a glass of wine.
