KATY, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a recently fired employee opened fire at a transportation company near Houston, killing one employee and injuring another before fatally shooting himself.

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said during a news conference Wednesday that the gunman was fired earlier in the day, then returned with a gun to the Knight Transportation office in Katy, about 20 miles west of Houston.

Hickman says the man opened fire, killing one person and injuring another. Hickman says the man then shot himself.

The sheriff didn’t release the name of the gunman or the victims.

Numerous patrol vehicles are surrounding the facility. At least one nearby school went on lockdown as a precaution.

A message left with Phoenix-based Knight Transportation also wasn’t immediately returned. The company provides truckload transportation services.

I work for an energy company and we just went through a major layoff. This was always a very major concern for me. Thank God everyone who was laid off didn’t retaliate in some kind of way. It was a very stressful time for everyone involved in the process.

  2. I work in HR and it is real! Luckily everyone I fired are still my friends. It really is about fairness, warning the employee first so they are not caught off guard. The lack of concern after the termination is what sends most of the people off the cliff.

You can’t give employees warning first. Are you a fool? No company tells employees days, or even hours before they are being terminated. They can steal, corrupt electronic data, a host of malicious acts. No one in HR would make that idiotic claim, I’m calling BS on you bro-bro

I never thought about that, now I have something else to think about. I agree, if you want to die, kill yourself but don’t take others with you.

  4. It’s scary as hell to think about shutting off your alarm, getting up, getting dressed, going to work and then getting slaughtered, never to be seen alive again. Just because someone didn’t want to be the only one to die that day.
