What about whole grains like steel cut oatmeal, quinoa and brown rice?
Whole grains can be part of a healthy diet. But stick to gluten free grains, like black or brown rice and quinoa or buckwheat, or wild rice. And keep to about 1/2 per day or per meal at the most. Less if you are diabetic.
What’s a good meal plan for diabetics?
The meal plan in Eat Fat Get Thin is perfect for diabetics and can help people reduce or get off of medications or insulin. The key is to cut out starch (rice, potatoes, pasta, flour) and sugar (or almost cut it out) and add good fats like olive, oil, nuts and seeds, avocados, whole eggs, coconut oil, fatty fish, and good protein (chicken, fish, grass fed meat) and lots and lots of veggies.
Doc, I was just diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I carry a lot of weight in my midsection due to stress. How can I fight off sugar cravings?
The fat in the program turns off the hunger switch and cravings. We had 1000 people do that program and at the start of the Eat Fat Get Thin plan, 80% had craving all the time or most of the time. After 21 days only 1% had cravings. This approach works to reset your metabolism and is designed to be the most effective diet for diabetes to help improve weight and blood sugars and even reverse type 2 diabetes.
I had the sleeve surgery and am not losing any weight. My doctor says it’s metabolic. I had the lap band surgery before. What can I do?
You may not be eating the right foods. Even if you have a sleeve – if you eat foods that increase insulin (the fat storage hormones), like potatoes, rice, flour products (bread), pasta, too much fruit, etc., then you can’t lose weight easily. So cut those out and eat more good fats outlined in Eat Fat Get Thin and you will help fix your metabolic problems. I am sure they checked your thyroid but if not check that too!
Ask the doctor how this plan aligns with someone with renal failure who has been told to eat low residue foods.
I do not know why you were recommended to have a low residue diet with renal failure. You have to watch your protein intake, but fat is fine. And so are vegetables and fiber.
Hi doctor why do I get up and then have to pee and poo? Dr. Oz says that’s a good thing, what do you think?
It is what we were designed to do. Be happy you poo early! We should go 1-3 times a day to clean out waste and toxins.
Which is better, unrefined or refined cocoanut oil and why?
Unrefined coconut oil is better. Processing can alter the chemical structure of fats rendering them toxic.
What is the most efficient diet for losing stubborn belly fat? Also, are there any any dietary suggestions for boosting testosterone levels naturally?
The best diet for getting rid of belly fat is a low carb (sugar and starch) high fat diet like the one described in Eat Fat Get Thin. It is also the best way to raise testosterone. Cutting out the sugar and flour and starch (which lowers testosterone) and adding fats which raise testosterone works great!
I have a thyroid problem and my metabolism sucks. What can I do to help?
See a Functional Medicine doctor and make sure your thyroid is optimally tuned up. See www.functionalmedicine.org to find one. Or read my ebook called The UltraThyroid Solution.
Is coconut oil a good fat?
Moderate amounts of coconut oil are great to include in your diet.
What’s the truth about apple cider vinegar?
It can be used to help alkalinize the body. And is good for some digestive problems.
