By now you’ve heard about Nicki Minaj blasting Miley Cyrus onstage during Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards show.

Minaj’s shocking outburst was in response to comments Miley made about the rapper in an interview with The New York Times, in which she criticized the rapper for complaining that her hit “Anaconda” video did not get nominated for Video of the Year.

Minaj accused MTV of dismissing the cultural contributions of black women, overlooking them in favor of their white counterparts, like Taylor Swift and Miley who twerks and rocks dreadlocks – which the media called “stunning.” Meanwhile, when Zendaya did it, they said she looks like she smells of African oils and weed.

Cyrus told the Times: “If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type,’”

She added, “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love.”

When Minaj was accepting her win for Best Hip-Hop Video for “Anaconda,” she shocked fans when she came for Miley’s faux locks by addressing the “Wrecking Ball” singer directly.

“And now…back to…this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press, Miley, what’s good?!”

A shocked Cyrus rejected Nicki’s attempt to engage in a war of words in front of millions of viewers by responding:

“Hey, we’re all in this industry, we all do interviews, and we all know how they manipulate sh*t. Nicki, congratulations.”

Viewers immediately took to social media to laugh off the moment, many insisting it was all staged by MTV. According to People, a source claims Minaj was indeed having a laugh.

“Nicki was joking,” the source said. “You could see her laughing toward the end.”

However, Entertainment Weekly reports that the moment was 100% authentic, quoting a source as saying: “Miley stormed off stage cursing in anger after that moment.”

The reaction of Miley’s family suggests that they were also taken aback by Nicki’s comments. Peep video of their reaction below.

MTV has released a statement claiming no part in Nicki’s eruption. Miley and Nicki have yet to comment on the incident.

Did Nicki have the right to go off on Miley or should she have just ignored her?
