Check them out below.

Hey Mom,

I just got off the phone with you…for the third time today. Thanks for walking me through how to make that yummy Jell-O salad you always take to your parties. I can’t wait to let you know how it turns out!

As easily as you walk me through making your signature recipes, you have walked me through so many of life’s challenges. It is because of your grace, strength, faith, and guidance, that I am the woman I am today. It is also because of you that I know how to cook anything besides TV dinners.

When life has brought me lemons, you’ve advised me on how to make lemonade. You have been my cheerleader since the day I was born, celebrated all of my successes, and been right beside me through all of life transitions. Thank you for being my best friend.

I look forward to our many daily conversations. It is such a blessing to hear your voice, your laugh, and yes – even your unsolicited advice. Those words, the words that only a mother will say to you, are often what I need to hear the most. Your honesty is a reflection of your love for me, and your desire for me to be my best self.

It is a blessing. These four words that you say so often hold so much power. When I have come to you while coping with heartache, after a disappointing experience, and in moments of doubt, you have said – It is a blessing.

When I have called you, concerned because you’ve had a cold, or a flat tire, or were simply having a bad day, you have said – It is a blessing.

“Why would you say a flat tire is a blessing?” I asked you once.

“Well, it is a blessing that I got the flat tire on a side street, and not on the freeway. Now that would have been a mess!”

What I once looked at as blind optimism, I now recognize as a manifestation of your faith, and your ability to see the good in every situation.

The most important recipe you have taught me over the years is your recipe for living a fulfilled life. It requires large amounts of patience, prayer and perseverance, generous portions of love, forgiveness, and laughter, a dash of spice, and a pinch of zest. For teaching me this recipe – and for everything you have done over the years – thank you, thank you, thank you.

It is a blessing.

Your loving daughter,

Shaun
