You know those people whose faces you see on TV and in movies all the time but don’t know their names? That’s Edwina Findley Dickerson. The Washington, D.C. native started out on The Wire straight out of college. She played gay drug dealer Omar’s right-hand woman, Tosha Mitchell.
“I was 21, running around with Omar, shooting people, gang-banging and look where we are now,” says Findley Dickerson.
She’s currently starring as Kevin Hart’s wife in Get Hard and also stars as Kelly on OWN’s If Loving You Is Wrong now in its second season.
“I think people are going to be excited about Kelly’s journey this season,” she says. “She’s starting to learn how to live on her own two feet. She’s been so betrayed, she’s given everything and compromised everything for this man and now the tables are turning and he’s going to pine for her the way she was pining for him. So I think people are going to enjoy seeing the tables shift.”
Findley Robinson has put together a steady stream of work including the Ava Duvernay directed movie Middle of Nowhere, the ABC series Brothers and Sisters and the HBO Hurricane Katrina series Treme. But because of her seamless acting and ability to disappear into a role, she may not be as well known as other young up-and-coming actresses.
“I just believe in purpose. I believe if you’re living in your purpose then you’re always doing something that goes along with your purpose. When I’m not acting I have a whole organization, Abundant Life Youth. We’re doing a school right now and we’re training up other artists. I fee like if I’m not performing I’m encouraging others to perform, when I’m not flourishing, I’m encouraging others to flourish, whether it’s in front of or behind the camera or with other young adults so I always feel satisfied.”
If Loving You Is Wrong airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. CT
