Brown’s death had already ignited several days of clashes with furious protesters. Tensions eased Thursday after Nixon turned oversight of the protests over to the Missouri Highway Patrol. Gone were the police in riot gear and armored vehicles, replaced by the new patrol commander who personally walked through the streets with demonstrators. But Friday night marked a resurgence of unrest.

Local officers faced strong criticism earlier in the week for their use of tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters. Johnson said one tear gas canister was deployed Friday night after the group of rioters became unruly.

The officer who killed Brown was identified as 28-year-old Darren Wilson, a six-year police veteran who had no previous complaints filed against him.

The Ferguson Police Department has refused to say anything about Wilson’s whereabouts, and Associated Press reporters were unable to contact him at any addresses or phone numbers listed under that name in the St. Louis area.

Wilson has been on paid administrative leave since the shooting. St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch said it could be weeks before the investigation wraps up.

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley asked Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster on Friday to take over the case, saying he did not believe McCulloch could be objective. Koster said Missouri law does not allow it unless McCulloch opts out, and McCulloch spokesman Ed Magee said the prosecutor has no plans to surrender the case.

  1. All this for what, he had a record a mile long strong arm robbery, fight with police and was kilt. So the moral of this story and thousands of others = destroy everything. This is the mindset of primitive parasites. No excuses. Black Panthers come in and preach violence, to what end? You all have been pimped AGAIN. Please continue your mindless rampage you’ll all be living in cardboard boxes. All the tax paying citizens should move out and see how you adjust to life with “Entitlements”.

Matters your name calling, lets be clear: he didn’t deserve to be executed by that murder. You wake up, you should be smarter than your posted comments.

  3. My heart goes out to Brown’s parents. No one wants to lose their child under any circumstances. On another IMPORTANT note….I wish that we in the (so-called) Black community would have a MAJOR PROTEST regarding Black brothers killing each other in every major city in high numbers. For the record I’ve blogged about this for several years; but apparently no one has been listening. Also for the record I said (so-called) Black community because all Black people don’t live in predominantly black communities. I for one lives in a racially mixed neighborhood. Blacks, Whites, Latinos, and a few

Don’t get this twisted I believed that we need law enforcement and I find nothing wrong in what they are doing to enforced the laws of the land. But I do have a problem that most of the shooting of Black males are by White officers. Everybody step back and look at this picture, there are Black Police officers and why they not shooting Black males. Do we Black males pose such a threat that it is shooting first and asks later.

    • @johnnie: Keeping it real….NOT ALL ; but it appears that A LOT of police officers have aggressive personalities. UNFORTUNATELY It seems as though it comes with the territory. I’ve been told by several people that are close to an officer that the rate of domestic abuse is high among officers.

Plus, they have CONTROL issues. They are a gang in every aspect. Abuse of POWER, is common place.

  5. I agree, a State of Emergency should have been declared. I believe in the right to protest but these protest are being used by SOME people to break the law by looting and destroy property. They need to go home and stay home and wait for the other police agency and the Feds to do their jobs.

    • Paris: So true but unfortunately you are preaching to he crowd here because I’d venture to say tat most people on this site (already) know what you are saying is true. Obviously looters aren’t rational thinking people. There are always BAD APPLES in every crowd.
