MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — State police say rapper Flavor Flav was ticketed for speeding and driving without a license en route to his mother’s funeral in suburban New York.

The rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, was allegedly driving 79 mph in a 55 mph zone Thursday morning on the Meadowbrook Parkway.

Police say the Long Island native also had a small amount of marijuana, and had 16 suspensions on his license.

Police say he was released on an appearance ticket so he could attend the funeral for his mother, who died Dec. 31.

The rapper is due in court Jan. 28. The name of his attorney was not immediately available.

He was a member of Public Enemy, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

Why did’nt he have a limo or car and driver to drive him on such a devastating day? That way you can smoke marijuana in the car without risk. I feel for him, I know when my mom passed it was the saddest day of my life and I still cry 5 years later. I wish the best for you Flav.

    • Just because he’s on his way to his mom’s funeral doesn’t give him the right to risk the lives of others to get there. AND, since he was going to his mom’s funeral, couldn’t he just this once, have had enough respect to leave the drugs at home? And you think the cops are stupid.

      • Thanks for your reply. Certainly I wouldn’t advocate harming others, but your rather self-righteous condemnations of him don’t change the fact that the police do not work to protect us – they work to make money off of the criminal justice system. If speeding were as dangerous as they make out, then most of the highways in the U.S. would be a daily bloodbath, because practically everyone speeds, especially on a day so important to them. Of course, the marijuana issue as we all are well aware is not one of protecting anyone but of generating a huge racket from a peaceful, if rather pointless and tasteless, pastime. So, since the police are obviously ruining both the public and the legal reputation of this soul just to make a few dollars from making him appear to be a monster when in fact he’s just like anyone else, yes, I find them quite stupid. I think they ought to get a proper job making other people’s lives BETTER, not worse.

I would encourage you to read my blog at http://www.tiffany267.wordpress where I post content related to police brutality and the general terror of the police state. Comments are welcome. Thanks for sparking a conversation today.

      • Yep, they work to make money off the criminal justice system. Just as lawyers work to make money of criminals, and firefighter work to make money off arsonists. Everybody’s got to make a living. But if they don’t also work to help and protect us, why is 911 the first number called when there’s someone on the highway trapped inside a burning, crushed up car after being slammed by a speeding car? Seen it with my own eyes. Cops and firemen all over the place. I hardly think getting a speeding ticket and getting popped for a small amount of illegal drugs is going to ruin the public and legal reputation of this poor soul. And for the life of me, I can’t find “police brutality” or “general terror” of any kind in this story.
