Dr. Nelson says, “Emotional communication or lack thereof may be the main determining factor in how long or short life is. When the body is free of the negativity of trapped emotions and is able to remain in a state of relative balance, the immune system remains strong and able to fight against pathogens and disease.”

Emotional Communication:
This is the big secret that women know, the piece of the puzzle men are missing that leads to poorer health and shorter lives: Women share what is on their hearts, while men often avoid talking about deeper feelings. “I saw hundreds of examples of this during my years as a holistic chiropractor,” Dr. Nelson says. “My male patients usually tended to keep conversation light and surface level. My female patients were the opposite. They would easily spill the beans about their difficult family relationships or stress at work, and communicated freely every tiny detail about their physical pains too.” In fact, it was this difference that led Dr. Nelson to initially explore how emotions affect physical health.

Processing Stress:
“How we deal with emotional stress means absolutely everything when it comes to our health,” Dr. Nelson says. “When we experience an emotion, the energy of it is automatically processed and released by the body, so we can move past that feeling and onto the next. Sometimes however, this process gets interrupted and the emotional energy gets stuck in the body. These energies are called trapped emotions and they can cause all kinds of emotional, mental and physical problems.”

Tuning Up Balance:
Because women are better at men when it comes to regularly sharing their feelings, they generally have fewer unresolved emotions. This lead to better balance in Dr. Nelson calls the “energy body” – the underlying connection between emotional and physical health. “Recognizing what you’re feeling and talking it out is one way of manually processing the emotional energy, so it doesn’t get stuck,” Dr. Nelson says. “It’s just like a car or any other machine that requires maintenance – keep the energy body ‘tuned up’ and balanced, and your physical body will be able to give you a longer, healthier, happier life.”
