MIAMI (AP) — The mayor of Miami-Dade County has apologized to an 82-year-old woman who was kicked off a Metrorail train for singing.

The Miami Herald  reports Emma Anderson was singing religious hymns and making noise on the train Feb. 20 when she ignored a warning from a security guard to quiet down.

A cell phone video taken by a fellow passenger shows the guard physically removing Anderson from the train at a station. Anderson fell as she struggled with the guard for her rolling suitcase.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez issued an apology to Anderson this week.

Miami-Dade Transit also issued a statement saying county rules prohibit anyone from “singing, dancing or playing a musical instrument” unless they have a commercial permit. Transit spokeswoman Karla Damian says Anderson’s singing was causing a disturbance.

“Do Christians have to obey the laws of the land?”

82-year-old woman physically removed from county transit train. Security guard told the woman she was being disruptive because she was singing a spiritual hymn out loud on the transit train that had rules and regulations.

The simple answer is that “Christians” are to obey human law except where that human law violates God’s Law. Our supreme duty is to obey God. Since God tells us to also obey human laws, we should. But, when they come in conflict, we are to “obey God rather than men.”

    • Well, If you wanna stretch it like that… The 3 Hebrews (by law) were told to bow in public… they did not. Daniel, (by law) was told not to pray…. he did. Jesus broke “laws” often… So did his disciples (I am assuming you know your Bible, so I won’t list all their infractions) “God’s law” would be to praise and worship Him. From a “Christian’s” perspective,.. You do believe the “Earth is the Lords”, don’t you? Well then, when does man’s “perspective” of disruption infringe upon this woman’s right to praise God?

Are they serious?????? 82 years old causing a disturbance and then the lady falling! ehat is this damn stupid country coming to!

  3. Kudos to Mayor Gimenez, the publicity was giving Miami-Dade County a black eye. Probably only a matter of time before this incident became part of a monologue for: Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. In light of what happened the County commissioners might want to look at this particular county rule.
