She may or may not be departing “R&B Divas,” but one thing we know for sure is that Faith Evans has a new single out. “Tears of Joy “ is the first single from the “R&B Divas” album, the companion album for the reality show of the same name. “Tears” is ahead of the next single “Dumb,” which Evans co-wrote. Fans in Memphis can catch Evans with Angie Stone and Dwele on December 22 at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. For info, click here.
Here’s a look at the single “Tears of Joy.”
Proceeds from the “R&B Divas” album will benefit the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange, N.J. Evans, who now lives in Los Angeles, is a New Jersey native and counted Houston among one of her closest friends in the music business.
“I’m proud to honor to my dear friend and music Icon, Ms. Whitney Houston and give back to the community in doing my part to help save performing arts in schools,” Evans said in a statement. “Making this album has been an incredible experience, and every true fan of R&B music will be touched by these beautiful songs of love, hope and triumph!”

Read the full transcription below.
TOM JOYNER: Faith Evans, R&B Divas and the R&B Divas album in stores right now. Faith, good morning.
FAITH EVANS : Good morning, guys.
TOM JOYNER: How you doing, girl?
FAITH EVANS : I’m doing well, I’m doing well. I’m about to get my kids up to school in a minute.
TOM JOYNER: Yeah? And breakfast? What are you serving?
FAITH EVANS : They get a little hash browns, but usually they don’t take them. The big boys just run out the door.
SYBIL WILKES : How old are your kids now, Faith?
FAITH EVANS : My daughter is 19.
FAITH EVANS : CJ is 16, Josh is 14, and Ryder is 5.
SYBIL WILKES : Wow. What a range, huh?
FAITH EVANS : Yeah.
FAITH EVANS : Yeah.
TOM JOYNER: R&B Divas has been renewed?
FAITH EVANS : Yes, yes it has.
TOM JOYNER: Congratulations.
SYBIL WILKES : And you?
FAITH EVANS : Thank you, thank you.
SYBIL WILKES : And you are continuing on R&B Divas?
FAITH EVANS : Oh, yeah. Mm-hmm.
SYBIL WILKES : Okay. Okay. There was some rumors about who was going to be coming back or if there were going to be replacements and that sort of thing?
FAITH EVANS : Yes, I’ve seen that, but I don’t, I mean, we’ve been seeing that stuff for a minute, starting with Nicki, but yeah. No changes that I know of.
SYBIL WILKES : Oh, good.
TOM JOYNER: Well, she’s co executive producer.
SYBIL WILKES : So she would know.
TOM JOYNER: She would know.
J. ANTHONY BROWN : She ain’t going nowhere. She ain’t going nowhere.
TOM JOYNER: But I heard, is it true that next year you won’t be, you’ll be in the background more than the front?
FAITH EVANS : That, we haven’t’ even gone over creative stuff yet, we just really kind of gotten notice that we definitely are doing a second season, but I mean that’s not true unless, you know, my thing is unless it’s something that I’m not cool with doing, you know, if I don’t Faith Evans el like something is representative of me or doesn’t make sense, then I have no problem letting them know in the creative meetings, but that’s a part of being a ep on the show, you know? But other than that, yeah, I don’t think, I think that’s just rumor.
TOM JOYNER: And it’s rumored about Andy Stone and Sunshine Anderson, huh?
FAITH EVANS : Now that’s what I don’t know, they have, I think with every show, you know, you try on the …
J. ANTHONY BROWN : Whenever a producer says they don’t know, they know. Okay?
FAITH EVANS : … the stuff on the season, it’s possible, they talking, no it’s possible they’ve been talking to other people.
J. ANTHONY BROWN : Alright, alright. Alright, Faith. Yeah, executive producer don’t know. Okay.
FAITH EVANS : I don’t know who they’ve been talking to. But they have been talking to other people. But not in terms of replacements.
TOM JOYNER: And I like what you’re doing with the album, congratulations, R&B Divas, the album, in honor Whitney Houston.
FAITH EVANS : Thank you.
TOM JOYNER: And the proceeds going to the Whitney Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey.
FAITH EVANS : Yes.
TOM JOYNER: That’s great. That’s great. The proceeds going to the, yeah.
FAITH EVANS : Thank you. Thank you. The album, you know, people are receiving the album, and I’m really happy about that. I just kind of want to, you know, remind people, and not that you guys need to be reminded, but you know, remind others who may have forgotten our genre, you know, it’s still very much alive and kicking.
TOM JOYNER: Yeah. And I love Tears of Joy. Oh, you sing that song.
FAITH EVANS : Thank you. Thank you.
TOM JOYNER: Whoa!
FAITH EVANS : I used to complain that it’s so hard to sing it, but now that I have to perform it a lot more I’m really falling in love with it again. I loved it when I recorded it, and I used to dread having to perform it, but it’s one of those songs that just gets you.
SYBIL WILKES : It gets people, it really does.
TOM JOYNER: Yeah. Yeah. And you have to give it all, you can’t leave anything.
FAITH EVANS : Exactly. It’s very lead driven, so I got to have it full.
TOM JOYNER: I got a text message here that says: Ask Faith if she’s still going to do the Florence Ballard movie?
FAITH EVANS : Actually I am in the process of trying to secure the rights to produce the project myself.
J. ANTHONY BROWN ? Oh, yeah?
FAITH EVANS : With some financial backing, yes.
SYBIL WILKES : Oh, that’s awesome. Good for you.
TOM JOYNER: Yeah, I could see you as Florence Ballet.
SYBIL WILKES : Absolutely.
TOM JOYNER: Yeah.
FAITH EVANS : Yeah.
TOM JOYNER: Of The Supremes.
FAITH EVANS : That fell through, but the offer came a few years ago and it wasn’t a real legitimate company that was trying to produce it. So I just waited and I’m now going to try to do it myself, so hopefully soon.
SYBIL WILKES : Well, good luck. Good luck.
TOM JOYNER: Alright, Faith.
FAITH EVANS: Thank you.
SYBIL WILKES : And following in the footsteps of your son the actor, huh?
FAITH EVANS : I guess so
TOM JOYNER: Faith Evans, R&B Divas. R&B Divas, the album.
