Michelle Obama shared more than just her love and admiration for military families during Monday’s broadcast of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

In the episode, Ellen and the first lady chatted via videocam with a group of teenage girls whose parents are in the military. Ellen brought up the subject of proms, which gave her an opportunity to show her own prom picture.

Then Ellen said she got hold of Mrs. Obama’s prom pic, and promptly showed the 1970’s photo of then Michelle Robinson in a metallic gold dress and jacket.

“That split was a little high,” she commented amid wild laughter and cheers at her event. “I don’t know if I’d let my kids go out in a split that high.”

She was also pictured seated in a huge wicker chair, which prompted Ellen to ask if she and her date had shopped at the furniture store, Pier 1, before the photo.
