PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The former bassist for The Roots is suing members of the band and a manager, claiming he’s owed money from a deal hatched before his cancer diagnosis forced him to quit.
Leonard “Hub” Hubbard performed with the band from 1992 to 2007, when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. That was two years before The Roots became the house band for Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show.
He says in the suit filed Wednesday in Philadelphia that an agreement was made in which he would continue to get paid as a co-owner. He claims his compensation began to dwindle and operations were transferred to a newly created company.
He’s accusing them of misrepresenting earnings and paying themselves disproportionately high salaries.
An email seeking comment from the band’s representative wasn’t immediately returned Thursday.
