Election Protection (EP) – led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law – is the nation’s largest non-partisan voter protection coalition. The national voter hotlines (1-866-OUR-VOTE, 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA & 1-888-API-VOTE) and Election Day field program assist voters with problems and guides them throughout the voting process. EP also provides critical resources year round, including for early voting, voter registration, election officials and grassroots organizations. Below is more information about the suite of hotline, EP field programs, Election Protection smartphone app and link to find the voter registration deadlines for the 2014 election.

Hours of Operation through Election Day

  • October 6-17—10 AM-7 PM Eastern
  • Weekends begin October 18th and October 19th—10-5 PM Eastern
  • October20-24—10 AM-8 PM Eastern
  • Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26—10 AM-7 PM Eastern
  • October 27-October 31—10 AM-8 PM Eastern
  • Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2—10 AM-8 PM Eastern
  • November 3 8:30 AM-8:30 PM (Continental US)—National and regional call centers are live
  • November 4—All National and local call centers operational, times are based on opening and closing of polling places. Earliest call center opens at 5:30 AM eastern and latest will be 8:30 PM Pacific.

When the hotline is not live, voters can leave a message that will be returned the next business day

National call centers are based in San Francisco, New York and Washington, DC and will take calls from multiple states across the country. There will be a regional call center based out of Minneapolis.

Local call centers will be in Los Angeles (Southern California), Denver (Colorado only), Houston (Harris County only), Chicago (IL & IN), Philadelphia (PA), Baltimore (MD), Chapel Hill (NC) and Atlanta (GA)

  • 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA (Administered by NALEO Educational Fund), live 8 AM-8 PM Pacific, M-F
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Hours will expand as we move closer to the election
  • 1-888-API-VOTE (Administered by AAJC & APIA Vote), which will be live on Election Day
  • Assistance in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, Bengali (may add Urdu, Hindi and Tagalog)

Election Protection Field Programs:

  • There will be both legal and grassroots volunteers that will both monitor and be dispatched to polling locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin to respond to problems at the polls on Election Day.

Election Protection Smartphone App:

  • The free smartphone app is available in English (Election Protection) and Spanish (ya es hora) to provide valuable information to voters as they prepare for the 2014 elections. The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, New Organizing Institute, Rock the Vote and Verified Voting Foundation first introduced this pivotal app in 2012 to educate and empower voters across the country.
  • The EP app empowers voters to:
    • Confirm their registration status;
    • If they are not registered to vote, fill out a voter registration form;
    • Find their polling place;
    • Verify the type of machine they will use;
    • Access FAQs and key voting information like voter ID requirements for their state; and
    • Email or call Election Protection or ya es hora to report a problem or ask a question.
