There’s no doubt that Juicy J scored a major hit with “Bandz A Make Her Dance” in 2012. But footage from the song’s video has gotten the rapper something he didn’t count on: a new lawsuit.
TheJasmineBrand.com reports Creative Dream Productions and the video’s principle photographer, Mahad Dar, is suing Juicy J and Columbia Records for copyright infringement regarding the footage. According to the suit, Creative Dream Productions worked with the Three 6 Mafia member to create a video for “Bandz A Make Her Dance” featuring Lil’ Wayne and 2 Chainz alongside Juicy J.
After details were ironed out, the company began to research locations where the video shoot could be held. The lawsuit adds that Creative Dream Productions also provided trailers, amenities and insurance coverage.
The company later received word from Lil’ Wayne’s publicists that the Young Money rep would not be able to make the shoot, the Jasmine Brand reports. As a result, the company took that information as confirmation to cancel the shoot.
One hour later, Lil’ Wayne’s publicists called Creative Dream Productions to inform them that the “A Milli” rapper would be able to attend the shoot. In light of the shoot being canceled, the company says it lost the venue.
Nevertheless, the video shoot for “Bandz A Make Her Dance” was held on August 26, 2012.
Although he was originally the sole owner of the video footage, Dar says he would own the rights to the clip until he and Juicy J came to a financial agreement and any copyrights could be handed over to the rapper.
That deal was non-existent, Dar stated in the suit while mentioning that Columbia Records released the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” video without his permission.
Creative Dream Production is demanding that Juicy J stop selling “Bandz A Make Her Dance,” in addition to requesting all profits made from the song and video.
