WASHINGTON (AP) — LeBron James’ return to Cleveland potentially complicates Republicans’ plan to nominate their 2016 presidential pick there.

The NBA star announced Friday that he would play again for the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team where he spent seven seasons. In doing so, James adds uncertainty to the GOP’s plans to use the Cavaliers’ arena to crown their presidential nominee.

Earlier this week, the Republican National Committee tapped Cleveland as its host city and eyed two options for starting dates: June 28 or July 18, 2016.

Should the James and the Cavaliers make it to post-season play, that June date might be impossible. Games would be taking place as organizers should be hanging bunting and balloons.

A spokeswoman for the RNC did not immediately return messages.
