(AP)- Washington D.C. Radio One News & Public Affairs Director, Sheila Stewart has been killed in an automobile accident on Interstate 20 in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said that Stewart, a personality with Radio One in Washington, died in the accident early Thursday morning as she was driving to the company’s Atlanta office.

Chris Wegmann, regional vice president for Radio One’s Washington properties, said Stewart had been sending her reports to Washington from Atlanta for several weeks.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the accident happened when Stewart’s car was rear-ended by another vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital, but died from her injuries.

Stewart’s co-workers became concerned Thursday morning when she missed her 6 a.m. broadcast. He said Stewart was expected to return to Washington Thursday evening.
