Today the nominees for the 2013 Academy Awards were announced and just two African-Americans were nominated.

Denzel Washington was nominated for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his heart-wrenching role in “Flight” where he played an alcoholic, drug-abusing pilot who is faced with the decision of his life after a fatal plane crash.

Quvenzhané Wallis was nominated for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” for her role as “Hushpuppy” in the critically acclaimed film “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

“Beasts of the Southern Wild” was also nominated for “Best Picture.”

Unfortunately, no nominations for Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, or Samuel L. Jackson for their roles in “Django Unchained” but the film did receive a couple of nominations including “Best Film.”
