Dear Tom,

My baby daughter, Yolanda, was 26-years-old when my oldest daughter, Rolinda, discovered she had cancer. Yolanda stepped in to care for Rolinda's children – driving them to school, to their extra-curricular activities and to church.

She also transported Rolinda and me to the radiation treatments and still managed to work a full-time job at a headstart program and caring for her 8-year old daughter, Elissa.

Sadly, Rolinda lost her 2-year battle with cancer in May of 2010 but before she died, Yolanda promised that she would raise the 2 children in the same household.  She fought a hard custody battle with the father of the kids that was financially hard on her but she won and now has full custody of Edmond (17) and Erin (11).

Since then, Yolanda has a new addition to her family with a one-year-old son named Ethan. She does so much for everyone including my older brother Edmond, Jr and me – we’re too old to drive so she takes us wherever we need to go and does it with a smile.

On Saturday, October 6th, she will be getting married to a wonderful fellow named Demetris – who is serving our country in the Army. I would like to help her with her wedding expenses, but I’m on a fixed income.
