  • Conservative Christian group, One Million Moms, is upset with Cedric the Entertainer's new TV show "The Soul Man" because it is not "family friendly."

The group asserts the show is a "mockery of Jesus Christ" and the christian faith, saying it does not represent how pastors really are.

One Million Moms also does not believe Niecey Nash represents a good christian woman, saying, her attire and persona is inappropriate and highly sexualized.

“The Soul Man” also stars Wesley Jonathan (“What I Like About You”), John Beasley (“Everwood”) and Jazz Raycole (“My Wife and Kids”).

The group began a petition against the show seeking donations to have the show cancelled.

TV Land has not released a statement on the petition.

    1. Seriously!! First GCB,and now The Soul Man! Sorry America, but I’m grateful I live in a country where the religious groups are less judgemental (or maybe I should say less powerful..?) because this is ridiculous ! How can a supposedly loving group of people criticize so much….

    2. It’s Cedric, not Fred Price or TD Jakes– geez!!! Niecey & Ced make a cute, believable, mature couple. It’s actually a very uplifting show. If someone is looking for chapter and verse, I suggest they turn to TBN and open their Bibles.

    3. It’s television!!!!! I don’t think the show is meant to replicate the life of a pastor, spouse and family. The show is meant for entertainment purposes only. Be grateful a sitcom is finally back on television which gives an outlet to the mindless degrading “reality” (yet scripted) shows.

    4. And also where was this group when DOLLAR BILL was beating his little girl . wake up is nothing more important things this group could worry about than a tv show so chidish . i guess ther going to be like the naacp was in the 70s ,when they put all those black actors out of work calling there movies BLAXPLOITATION.

    5. “The kingdom of Kongo, therefore, is a case in study of the processes of westernizing the very first group of Blacks on the African continent. This, however, was only one of the means to a much greater end. Nothing could have been farther from Portugal’s real objective then bringing Christianity and a higher civilization to Africa. Christian civilization served as the charm words in the white man’s magic with the incantations which hypnotized both his victims and himself. In other words the Blacks believed they were being introduced to a better life, and the white man believed the enslaved people where better off under the white standard of civilization, and that he was serving God himself in Africa. Christian missionaries the most effective servants of the European empire”.
(WHO CARES WHAT THEY SAY DO THE HISTORY)

    6. The show is catchie. The same rhetoric took Amos n’ Andy off the air. ..and it was catchie too. FOR CHRIST’S SAKE, these are actors trying to earn a living. It’s sad that One Million Moms don’t have a clue.

    7. I watch and enjoy this show. My husband is a preacher and we do not take this personally because it is just a sitcom. I don’t believe this show was developed to reflect the true life of a minister and/or his/her family but if so I’m sure you would find some of these things going on in the life and family of some ministers. I would think the people that are petitioning to have this show removed would find more important issues to complain about! I love the cast and “pray” this show is not removed from television!!!!! These people need to remove their stuffed shirts, stop hiding behind their religion, and just enjoy the show :o).

    8. Why is this group taking the show personal. Change the channel, better yet turn the TV off and PRAY doesn’t the bible say “do not be of this world”?

    9. I am just in awe right now! Where was this group when Eddie Long sent those boys pictures of him posing? Where was this group when Jimmy Swaggart admitted to sleeping with a prostitute back in the days?! I’m so sick of groups “choosing” who to decide not to like. It’s a sitcom, it’s not based on anyone’s actual life. My goodness!!!!!!!!!!!

    10. This is absolutely ridiculous. I love the show. Cedric and Niecy Nash are very funny. This is what is wrong with the world today, no one laughs. Everything has to be serious. I DVR the show every Wednesday. It’s a TV show. I bet you watch Law and Order, right?

    11. I don’t think their intention was to represent pastors. This is a television show and we shouldn’t base our walk with Christ on a television show. This show’s intention is to make people laugh and I love it. I think these One million moms should spend this time reading the word. Niecy Nash is as much a christian as any of them. According to the Word of God Jesus said that their is non good but the father. We are alway admonished to examine ourselves. We as believer are not to compare ourselves with others and we are to use the Holy Spirit as our guide. Those women need Jesus.

    12. and when did the One Million Moms represent the entire viewing audience? They should be out there looking at the negative things young people are engaged in and find some positive outcomes – This is a sitcom!!! and as someone has already said, if you don’t like it – DON’T WATCH IT

Hit em up – THEY WILL HELP U!!

    14. There’s a really cool invention called the remote control. Use it. Geez, if the show is not “family friendly” enough, don’t watch it.

    15. Quote: “One Million Moms also does not believe Niecey Nash represents a good christian woman, saying, her attire and persona is inappropriate and highly sexualized.”

Are you kidding me?! That is absolutely ludicrous! I guess christian women can’t be sexy, wear nice clothes, or have outgoing personalities, huh? So if we go by their definition, then if Niecey Nash’s character were a stereotypical big hat wearing, 300 pounds weighing, fried chicken dinner making, Holy Ghost catching woman then that would be more acceptable to them.

Understand this OMM…it’s just a SHOW! A SITCOM! It’s put on for entertainment purposes and designed to induce laughter! Also, I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret. Don’t let this get around too much, but from time to time Hollywood has been known to…get this…EXAGGERATE!!!

      Please get a life.
