Nostalgia wins again!
BET President and CEO Scott Mills spilled that the network is currently working on a reboot and revamp of 106 & Park. The legendary music video countdown show on BET was an integral platform for highlighting Hip-Hop and Black stars in the early 2000s and 2010s. Guests in the past included anyone from a young Destiny’s Child to Whitney Houston to Tom Cruise. 106 & Park stands as a pillar in not only Black American culture, but pop culture in its entirety.
106 & Park aired from 2000-2014, producing a total of 3,710 episodes. During their 14 year run, the show had 5 sets of hosts including the iconic AJ Calloway & Free (Marie Wright). Many joke that you can tell a person’s age by their preferred 106 & Park host(s). The show’s revival aims to resonate with the new generation while honoring its legacy in BET’s programming.

In a January 8 appearance on The Breakfast Club, Scott Mills discussed the show’s lasting impact and plans for its revival in a format tailored to the online and digital landscape.
Mills: “We understand people love 106 & Park… The fact that it doesn’t work as a linear television show doesn’t mean it’s over. We can bring 106 & Park back as a podcast. We can bring back 106 & Park back as a digital experience.”
A reimagined 106 & Park is expected to be launched this year, aligning with the 25th anniversary of the show. Mills mentioned that there are several exciting new concepts in development, which will be unveiled as part of the anniversary celebrations. What do you think BET has up their sleeves?
