According to The Dallas Black Dance Theatre, nine dancers were let go last week for “violating company policies” after posting a video online, but the dancers claim the firings were retaliation after the group voted to unionize and file a claim of unfair labor practices earlier this summer.
The video in question was posted on social media and features the dancers dancing and playfully introducing themselves to the theme song of popular 90s sitcom “Family Matters.”
A rep for DBDT says actions in the video violate terms that each member of the group had signed previously.

On August 17, a protest was held on behalf of the dancers and attendees included community members, local and state officials and members of other unions such as Actors’ Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA and the Dallas AFL-CIO.
Members of the Dallas City Council have now stepped in order to get to the bottom of things as they assist in funding of the theatre.
