April is the time of year that high school students start receiving college acceptance letters in hopes of gaining entrance into their school of choice.
Students are happy if they get 8 or 10 acceptance letters but one school in New Orléans has students receiving over 20 acceptance letters, according to WGNO News. Including one student getting a grand total of 83 acceptance letters.
Darrin Francois is a senior at the International School of New Orléans remembers applying for schools but had no idea he did that many.
“I just applied, applied, applied. I didn’t know how many it was, so once they started to come through the mail, I was like oh my gosh, this many? Then, they started coming more and more. Now, today, I have 83 now,” explained Francois.
With $3 million in scholarship money, what parent wouldn’t be proud of their kid?
“Eighty-three colleges? That is wonderful, that is a blessing from God. I’m very proud, a proud mother to see my son go forward into his success and go forward into his goals,” said Francois mom Bridget. Although he hasn’t chosen a school, he’s hoping to study law.
As stated before, Francois wasn’t the only student receiving tons of acceptance letters. Those students say that scholarship money will be a huge deciding factor in where they decide to go.
“I started to focus more on my career choice and schools that would promote me in that area,” explained Thalneisha Weston a senior.
This a record for the school and faculty credit the daily routine of having students apply to schools.
“I think we got on some of their nerves to be honest with you, but we continued to hammer at them to let them know that the world is yours if you reach out and get it,” explains Rufus McGee the director of student support services.
Weston was especially proud of fellow students being able to achieve this. “We’re doing it, we made it. We’ve accomplished a lot and it’s exciting. To know that it’s not just one person, or two, it’s multiple people. That is really a blessing.”
