Pennsylvania has undergone one of the tightest special elections for Congress with Democratic candidate Conor Lamb leading by .3% over Republican candidate Rick Saccone.

Roland Martin talks with top Democratic pollster Ron Lester about the special election, what it means and what the Democratic Party should be taking from it.

“Absolutely, voter registration is the key. This was one of the reddest of reddest seats,” explained Lester of Pennsylvania. Trump previously won this district and Republicans have consistently won this district in the past. “This is a solid Republican seat so for a Democrat to win this seat is extraordinary,” said Lester.

Unlike Virginia and Alabama where the majority of the population is Black, Pennsylvania consist of a lot of suburban white people.

“This is a district dominated by white folks,” explained Lester. This means that these people either didn’t vote for Trump during the election or they did and have since changed.

Lamb seemed to be the right fit for his district as he was a veteran, former prosecutor and from that part of Pennsylvania. He was able to relate to his voters.

“You have to have candidates who are compatible with the voters,” explained Lester.
