Siedah Garrett: ‘Dennis Gave Me My Shot’
The music world is in mourning after losing a great one in singer Dennis Edwards. Edwards is known for his career in The Temptations and his amazing solo career. Siedah Garret remembers her friend and colleague who gave her first shot at the big time with their hit song Don’t Look Any Further.
“Dennis gave me my shot. I was an unknown demo singer just trying to earn a living,” explained Garrett. “Making my way in the business and Dennis gave me a shot.”
The song Don’t Look Any Further became a hit and is still doing good to this very day. “It’s done very well. It went to number two on the billboard charts. It’s still a club favorite,” said Garrett. “I’m happy that it’s done what it did. It introduced me to the world as a singer.”
“Dennis was so much fun. And he had a group of groupies that would travel with him,” laughed Garrett. “They were comical, they were characters in themselves and touring with him and doing the clubs in New Jersey and New York was exciting and freighting all at the same time.”
Edwards was instrumental is putting Garrett on the map and she couldn’t be more thankful. “Dennis changed my life. He will be missed,” expressed Garrett.
