Hip-hop legend Kurtis Blow has taken his talents to a different stage… musical theater that is.

The New York native is opening and hosting The Hip-Hop Nutcracker, a “dance spectacle” that puts a contemporary twist on the classic Nutcracker story.

“We fused Hip-Hop with this classic. And so now we have break-dancing and ballet along with the classical music”, Blow explained to the Tom Joyner Morning Show crew.

Sadly, Blow’s interview was only hours after news of the Las Vegas tragedy broke,  “I’m feeling so bad, man. This is crazy….This is insane, over in Vegas. My prayers,  and my thoughts and my compassion goes out to all the people who had to witness that, be involved in that,” he shared.

Check out the full interview above to hear more about the show, his love for Cardi B, and his take on that infamous New Edition Story scene.
