About a week ago Jay-Z was approached to perform at the 2018 Super Bowl Halftime show but reportedly declined. Many believed he turned down the offer because the NFL continues to blackball Colin Kaepernick. At his recent show in New York, the rapper made a shout out to Kaepernick on stage during his set.

It’s now being reported that singer Justin Timberlake is close to finalizing a deal to perform at the Halftime show.

AOL.com reports:

Us Weekly reported on Wednesday that the “SexyBack” hitmaker is in the final stages of negotiating the deal, which will come 14 years after Timberlake infamously ripped Janet Jackson’s top off in a stunt immediately dubbed “nipplegate” back in 2004.

Though Timberlake is known for his collaborations over the years, the Us Weekly source claims that “as of right now, it will just be Justin — no surprise performers.” That means no JAY-Z, no Janet Jackson, and no NSYNC bandmates.

That being said, the performance is still over four months away so a lot could change between now and then.

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that the coveted halftime show was initially offered to JAY-Z, who allegedly turned the offer down in the wake of the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick.

Timberlake is currently hard at work on his fifth studio album.

The 2018 Super Bowl will take place in Minneapolis on February 4.
