A video posted on Facebook has gone viral on the internet, featuring Black men of all ages, professions, and shades, wearing a black t-shirt over their favorite jerseys.

The movement is called #BLACKOUTNFL. It is in response to the NFL blackballing Colin Kaepernick for taking a knee at football games in protest of police brutality.

In the video, Pastor Debliare Snell, explains why this movement is so important. He says, “Since the end of last season, as a result of this protest, Colin Kaepernick has been unable to find employment in the NFL. I find that strange seeing that the NFL has employed individuals that have been convicted of sexual assault, domestic violence, cruelty to animals, along with driving while under the influence.”

The pastor goes explains that if Kaepernick can take a stand then they too can take a stand with him.

The #BlackOut movement is advocating for four main things:

  1. To boycott the NFL (no games, no fantasy football, no jerseys, no nothing)
  2. Commit to one-two hours during the NFL season, using the time you would have watched the games to mentor young black boy and girls.
  3. Spread the word to others
  4. “Take a knee” in prayer at 6 a.m. each morning.
