Chicago had a very violent Christmas this year.

Sixty one people were shot in the Windy City this holiday weekend and of those marked by gun violence, 11 died from their wounds.

Chicago Tribune reports:

Seven people were killed on Christmas Day alone, more than on the holiday the past three years combined. Three people were killed in 2015, one in 2014, and two in 2013.

This weekend’s total shootings beat out prior years by a lot. The site continues, “The number of people shot over the holiday weekend also sharply outpaced recent years. During the Christmas weekend in 2015, 29 people were shot and seven of them died. In 2014, when Christmas fell on a Thursday, the four-day weekend included 35 people shot and seven people killed, according to Tribune data.

This past weekend’s toll pushed the total number of people shot in Chicago this year to more than 4,300 and the number of homicides to around 770. Last year, there were 2,989 shooting victims and 492 homicides.”

According to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, most of the victims were targeted by gang members. He said of the escalating violence the day after Christmas, “The violence primarily occurred in areas with historical gang conflicts on the South and West sides of the city. We now know that the majority of these shootings and homicides were targeted attacks by gangs against potential rival gang members and groups who were at holiday gatherings.

“These were deliberate and planned shootings by one gang against another,” he added. “They were targeted knowing fully well that individuals would be at the homes of family and friends celebrating the holidays. This was followed by several acts of retaliation.”

We continue to pray for those families affected by the gang and gun violence in Chicago and will keep you updated as more news surfaces.

There is more than one issue plaguing our communities, so there is no “one size fits all” solution. Stop blaming and start finding ways to resolve some of the issues one at a time if necessary. It does start at home, but if home is already f-d up than we can only expect it to get worse. For all you smart and educated men, why don’t you get involved in changing the things you can. If you see a young man heading down the wrong path, step in, show him a better option, if you can’t do that, than STFU, nobody wants to here you.
And you fools blaming it on black women, it takes two to impregnate. Make sure you’re not a statistic as absentee father.

  2. Single out of control black hoot rat women raising these thugs. That is the root of the problem, the complete genocide of the black family. There, I said it.

They are probably with Black Lives Matters. Dont forget there is not a white office involved here! Wait Rev. Snake Al Sharpton may be at the playboy mansion again. Tell me why would a so called Rev. be at the playboy mansion need to take a closer look at our so called leaders.

  4. Blacks are their own worst enemy now , at one time it was others. It’s starts at home take care or your own if you’re waiting for others we will are be dead they don’t care.

  5. Stopping violence isn’t as easy as it sounds. It’s very complicated. Let’s be honest….I think (most) people in that area are scared to speak up, and get involved (who wouldn’t be). Including the clergy, and church members. Yet religious folks always talking about praying for this, and praying for that. Yeah I said it. Where has prayer gotten you so far??!! Avoiding becoming a violent person involves being taught right from wrong at a very young age. I still say overall it stems from the male psychi in that (a lot) of males have that dominate gene. The love of some type of war (whether it be hand to hand combat, or a game of pick up basketball, or even golf). As far as the violence in Chicago is concerned…….I think a lot of it has to deal with mental illness……which is rarely mentioned

Terri – BLM has everything to do with this there is no need for another cause BLM is it! And now you want to mention mental illness ………seriously! This is the problem that keeps the cycle going finding something else to blame this ignorant behavior on. Far as the problem in the neighborhoods thats another issue where people turn a blind eye until its their family involved then they want people to speak up but no one wants to talk! You want to blame that on mental illness as well? Simple, if people speak up and point these thugs out it sets a standard for the community!

    • Jay: I hear yah…..but they are the same place the religious, church going, Sunday go to meeting, Praying, Pimpin’ ministers, Tavis, and Cornell types (always talking about President Obama) are!! Missing in real action. BLM have a specific cause, and I’m glad they have taken up a specific cause. Sooooooo why don’t you start a cause to take up violence in Chicago??!! We’re waiting!

This is where BLM should be most prevalent they should be active in the communities to stop this senseless violence against our own people. But where are they? Absent again? Hypocrites! Black lives matters should have a march everyday in these communities and outreach to these community leaders to help in any way! Yet BLM just sits an watches until there is a white officer involved and a thug dead on the street! Funny we dont stand up for these that have been killed by our own but riot and burn shyt down when one of these very same thugs prob one that did the killing is killed by a white police officer. Glad the church community stepped up!
