Eastern Michigan University students rallied on Tuesday against racist graffiti discovered on campus, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The letters “KKK” were spray-painted in red, white and blue letters, along with the message “Leave N***ers” on a campus building.

The Free Press said about 150 protesters marched to the home of EMU’s president, James Smith, where he and other university officials spoke with the students about the incident.

Smith released this statement:

“The university strongly condemns such a racist and thoughtless act, which runs completely counter to the values and welcoming environment of our highly diverse Eastern Michigan University community. Our Department of Public Safety is undertaking a full and immediate investigation, and the graffiti has been quickly removed.”

A university spokesperson told the newspaper that the dialogue between the protesters and administration was “constructive.” The demonstrators returned to campus after Smith finished his remarks.
