Marie Holmes, North Carolina’s $188 million Powerball lottery winner is back in the news again.

This time Holmes is not spending $21 million on bailing her boyfriend, Lamarr McDow, out-of-jail for the fourth time or harassing and threatening his side chick, but a pastor is allegedly suing her for $10 million for reneging on a verbal contract.

The 27-year-old mother of two took home a $127 million lump sum payment following her lottery win in February, 2015.

Pastor Kevin Matthews says he is experiencing emotional and mental distress due to her backing down from a verbal contract they had regarding $1.5 million to purchase land to build a retreat facility.

“Because of the emotional distress and mental stress, they put me through, I had to start taking more medicine for anxiety and depression due to this situation,” says Pastor Kevin Matthews.

Holmes’ attorney, Ruth Sheehan, of The Francis Law Firm, said she was not aware of the situation or the lawsuit.

In a recent interview with EURweb, Pastor Matthews says: “God led him to her house and he prayed with her.”

He later met Holmes and ministered to her on several occasions at her new home. He also said he ministered to three other people at her home, and then he eventually asked her to consider giving him money to purchase land to build a retreat. He gave her three different amounts that he needed ($1 million, $1.5 million and $2 million). After several meetings, she agreed to give him $1.5 million to help purchase land to build a retreat center that he says he had been praying about for years.

  1. That’s so sad. People get so greedy and don’t care about anybody else but themselves. She didn’t owe anything to that pastor so for him to sue her for her money is selfish and shows that he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I mean gosh, how much did he expect to get, half? smh.

  2. First of all, if she’s already given her 10% plus has given her pastor $700K…what more should she give him? Absolutely nothing! Greed! I would no longer attend the church he’s pastoring…

  3. first of all what’s this young lady doing bailing out this thug from jail she needs to move with her children out of the town or out of state where she lives in and start a new life . That poor lady is going to end up broke like the most of these lottery winners. So young lady I hope you read this and grab your kids get out of town while you can . And with the rest of your money find a good lawyer invest the rest pay your self every month and LIVE !

We do not have to give 10%. The bible say give what you can, be a cheerful giver. He don’t need a church if he think taking her to court is the right answer.

  5. It is not the responsibility of one person to carry the financial load of a new facility. This pastor is crooked. You can tell a person’s heart condition by his “works.” Suing for money that does not belong to you is a sure sign of greed. Nobody should be attending any congregation led by this man, who is more concerned with money that providing an example for fellow believers to follow.

P.O.S.LIVE THE LIFE THAT GOD CHOSE FOR YOU NOT THE LIFE YOUR MAKING WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S MONEY YOUR A CROOKED PASTOR AND KARMA IS A BITCH. YOU BETTER HOPE YOU DON’T GET STRUCK DOWN BY LIGHTNING.

  7. I’d sure like to see this so-called Pastor’s credentials. What, he cannot follow the Holy Bible
for his life as an example to his flock? As another has said, he needs to read
1 Corinthians chapter 6 and repent from his desires to drag Christ into a courtroom and slander His righteous name.

We are not living in a garden anymore. This is a very cruel world. People are not to be trusted. You can’t trust anyone out there because we are living in the end of days. And the Bible says all Christians are not going to heaven.

  9. Congrats to her winnings!!!:) But the Pastor needs to get out of the pulpit, and set in back row of church until he rebukes that greedy heart of his…

I guess we see how much faith this preacher has. No humility, no love , no faith in GOD and HIS power to provide. Let it be a lesson that the lord will always expose those who work against his kingdom , for the benefit of the faithful. Such a shame but these things and these types of people have been spoken of. Pray for that preacher that the LORD shows him his error and has mercy.

1 Corinthians 6New King James Version (NKJV)
    Do Not Sue the Brethren

6 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? 4 If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge? 5 I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? 6 But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers!

  13. This is a pimp in the pulpit .. Satan uses so call men to tear the church up!! God don’t operate like that and True Men of God don’t try to swindle people out of money

  14. This man should be there to help this young lady, not take advantage of her she has enough people coming at her with wrong motives. He should soul search and stop this and if not everyone at that church should find somewhere else to worship

  15. If she was a church member, she was supposed to give 10% of that money for her tithes. That meant that her pastor should have gotten $12.7 million, not $1.5 million. What kind of dumb a** christian is she that she didn’t know this? How can you shame your pastor like that? You will not be blessed!

    • Are you being sarcastic? If not, then you should know that tithing is not MANDATORY! Read the New Testament regarding giving and the Old regarding tithing. We are no longer required to give 10%, rather we are to give as the Lord leads us to, no matter what the amount is. The Lord loves a CHEERFUL GIVER!!!!!

      • Amen. She doesn’t owe him one penny. Sad case. She gives the pastor $700,000, but he’s thirsty for much more!!! Wow, money is a weakness for him! Lets’ pray for this pastor!!

    • Tithing is not for the pastor period 1st of all, secondly he is out of line for asking her for any money. Thirdly. We are to tithe 10 percent of our income/money whatever, but it is ultimately between her & God. Not the Pastor, not the Church, & certainly not you. I guess you missed that part in the Bible that says judge ye not. His Job is to lead & teach her. Tell her what she is supposed to do, but to try to force it out of her one way or another is wrong. You teach people the right way. Their choice to follow or not is between them & God. Would it be this big of a concern had she not won the lottery. Nope I don’t think so.

The article states she wasn’t a member his church, after she won the lottery this “pastor” says God led him to her new house and he prayed with her and 3 others. She just didn’t know she was being preyed upon and not prayed over!! He’s a crook and a con!

    • You should be real careful who your calling a dumb(a) the Bible is not totally clear on 10%, it also mentions 1 5th. Perhaps may want to study it. Start with Leviticus, just offering a small hint. You wouldn’t want to look like a dumd(a) for appearing totally ignorant. The dumb (a) isn’t my words, I was just using yours. I don’t think a tru Christian would call some1 that. God Bless You.

  16. Amen again to the 10th power. Girl take you and your kids and move very quietly. Next time you win big or with anything else, keep your mouth shut. This is why you don’t tell people everything. Friends included

If it’s God will pray about if it happens it happens God did not intend for this knucklehead to sue this lady for his Glory God was never involved, this bird brain his intentions were never good shame on him give me a break unbelievable

    • This is not a man of God. He’s a liar and a swindler. He needs to be defrockef for he’s doing. He’s a disgrace to his congregation. And gives a horrible name to true bible believing Christians everywhere. This is what keeps people away from churches. But from ive neen learning so far, a church is not a building it’s the people in it. And so far from this story that pastor is a crack in the foundation of that church.

I have seen the worst people on earth masquerading as so called Christians just to take advantage of others. People need to stop worshipping this false religion they call Christianity.
