Following a grand jury’s failure to indict officers Tim Loehmann and Frank Garmback in the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, his mother Samaria Rice has issued a statement.

She remains hopeful that the federal government will review her son’s murder.

According to Jezebel, “The Civil Rights Division within the Department of Justice is also investigating the circumstances surrounding Rice’s death and will produce its assessment independent of the Ohio court system.”

Rice’s full remarks:

My family and I are in pain and devastated by the non-indictment of officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback for the murder of our beloved Tamir. After this investigation—which took over a year to unfold—and Prosecutor McGinty’s mishandling of this case, we no longer trust the local criminal-justice system, which we view as corrupt.

Prosecutor McGinty deliberately sabotaged the case, never advocating for my son, and acting instead like the police officers’ defense attorney. In a time in which a non-indictment who have killed an unarmed black child is business as usual, we mourn for Tamir, and for all of the black people who have been killed by the police without justice. In our view, this process demonstrates that race is still an extremely troubling and serious problem in our country and the criminal-justice system.

I don’t want my child to have died for nothing and I refuse to let his legacy or his name be ignored. We will continue to fight for justice for him, and for all families who must live with the pain that we live with.

As the video shows, Officer Loehmann shot my son in less than a second. All I wanted was someone to be held accountable. But this entire process was a charade.

I pray and hope that the federal government will investigate this case.

  1. If only we could re-count what this child was doing before this incident happened? Only God knows… It’s not enough that black on black crime is at an all time high, but we also have to deal with blue on black crime, and the blue is winning the battle. There has to be other answers besides protesting, voting, and dying….

This is the formula prosecutors use to get cops off for murder:1- release positive information about the officers involved to the media. 2-Attack the characters of any person even a child killed, portray the victims as worthless. 3-Remind the public the a video of the incident does not tell the whole story, Don’t believe what your eyes see. 4- release more heroic information about the officers involved. 5- Always blame the victims for there own death, subject did not follow orders, he was reaching for his waist band and the favorite I thought he had a gun. Qualified Immunity Indefinite paid vacations courtesy of the taxpayers. The police have special privileges to kill anybody for any reason and not be held accountable, they are above the laws of the united states.

    • Absolutely, spot on.
      – its an absolute disgrace, to the principals of Justice and the rule of Law that you can describe this formula so accurately.
