4 Dead, 3 Injured in Chattanooga Mass Shooting

On Thursday, a gunman shot dead four US Marines and injured three others at a military site in Chattanooga after opening fire in a recruiting station. The FBI is leading a “national security investigation” according to Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and the US Attorney of the Eastern District of Tennessee William C. Killian has said that federal officials are “treating this as an act of domestic terrorism.” However, the FBI has yet to find any direct links between the shooter, Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, and any international terrorist organizations. James Holmes Convicted Of First-Degree Murder For Aurora, CO Theater Shooting

James Holmes has been found guilty of murder for killing 20 people and injuring over 70 others in the 2012 Aurora, CO theater shooting. The verdict was reached in only a little over a day; Holmes was found guilty of all 165 charges and the jury had rejected the shooter’s pleas to insanity that would have otherwise landed him with a sentencing to a mental institution, rather than imprisonment for life or execution. The penalty phase of Holmes’ trial will commence next Wednesday. Read more at CBS News.

Sandra Bland Might Have Been Battling Mental Illnesses

After the hashtag #IfIDieInCustody was trending on Twitter yesterday, some more disturbing news about Sandra Bland, the Chicago woman who died in police custody in Texas, has surfaced. A Facebook Video from March 1 features Bland smiling and speaking warmly into the camera, apologizing for her absence from social media and explaining her struggles with depression and PTSD—illnessess that could have been linked to her death. What’s more disturbing is that Bland had tried to post bail when she was imprisoned, a fee of only $500 that would have been charged to her friends and family. The bondsman Bland was working with claimed to have called Bland’s mother to post bail, but he refused to provide any further information on what happened next and why Bland was still stuck in her cell.
