The news was announced on the Spokane NAACP Chapter‘s Facebook page with a post that was apparently written by Dolezal herself. “It is with complete allegiance to the cause of racial and social justice and the N.A.A.C.P. that I step aside from the presidency,” Dolezal says in the statement. She does not address in the post her racial identity or her relationship with her parents. The vice president of the chapter, Naima Quarles-Burnley, will now become the president.

Dolezal was supposed to address the issue during a chapter meeting today. The NAACP previously released a statement defending her work as a member.
