At this weekend’s Women’s Division 1 swimming games for the annual NCAA Championship, an awesome feat occurred–three Black women earned the top three spots in the competition! Simone Manuel, of Stanford University, took home the gold, Lia Neal, also of Stanford, won the silver and Natalie Hinds, of the University of Florida, sealed this special trio as the Bronze recipient. YES!
The sports world was notified of the fantastic moment through a celebratory tweet from the official USA Swimming organization:
Manuel set a NCAA record for the American, U.S. Open, Championship and Pool titles with her ah-maze-zing swimming time for the Women’s 100 yard freestyle at 46.09.
But Neal was on her coattails! Clocking in at a swift 47.13. (As NBC News added, she had won the bronze medal for the 4×100 free relay at the Olympic London games in 2012).
And Hinds, she was no slouch, coming in at a nice 47.24 and setting a new record for future University of Florida students with her swimming time.
