Morris Chestnut is gearing up to star as the lead character in Fox’s upcoming drama pilot. Deadline is reporting, the untitled project, which was formerly known as Rosewood, focuses on Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr (Chestnut), a charming, talented and top Miami private pathologist who is able to read living and dead bodies, like a book. Although Dr. Rosewood is surrounded by death, he has a sunny outlook on life, which irks and annoys a female detective he’s always paired up with.

Currently Chestnut is filming and executive producing the psychological thriller, When The Bough Breaks alongside his Best Man Holiday co-star Regina Hall. The flick centers on a surrogate mother who gets dangerously obsessed with the expecting father-to-be.

Meanwhile, Chestnut is starting to become an in-demand actor around Hollywood. He just finished filming another movie for Sony, The Perfect Guy, with Sanaa Lathan and Michael Ealy. The film centers on Leah, (Lathan) a woman who’s career as a lobbyist is on the upswing but is ready for marriage with her longtime boyfriend Dave (Chestnut). Dave’s gun shy attitude towards marriage prompts Leah to ditch him and winds up with Carter (Ealy), a man who Leah keeps running into. Carter seems to be just what Leah wants but things take a turn for the worse in the relationship when Carter’s possessiveness becomes something more sinister. The film hits theaters Sept. 11.

Chestnut is also starring as screen legend Robert De Nero’s right hand man, in Bus 657. The movie delves into a casino card dealer who puts together a crew to rob a bank and hijack a city bus as collateral. Bus 657 is released later this year.
