It was a funny concept, but it just didn’t pan out that way for television. “Saturday Night Live” tried to go all in for their “Def TedTalks Jam,” but it fell pretty flat.

One good thing about the sketch was Jay Pharoah’s impression of Def Jam founder and hip-hop pioneer, Russell Simmons. He was dead on and equipped with the signature lisp. The clip features last week’s host Cameron Diaz, castmates Sasheer Zamata, Kenan Thompson, and others, to portray the famous speakers who have graced the TedTalks stage. But with topics like “Why Hygiene?,””Where are People,?” and “Is Anything Ain’t Be Crazy?” (like, who speaks like this?), it turned out to be pretty awful.

It was so unfunny, it’s no wonder they scrapped it from the show. The mashup of Def Comedy Jam meets TedTalks was just wack. Honestly, this is the ONE time they could have taken some topics from #BlackTwitter, and the sketch would have turned out great. For example, “What Are $200 Dates About, Really?”
