Charlie Wilson will be on board the Fantastic Voyage 2014 and that’s good news for music fans. He took some good-natured ribbing from the TJMS team this morning, with the crew joking about how he performs in three cities a day, and with J. Anthony Brown saying he was so good he opens for himself.
“Are you old school are you new school are you rap, what are you?” Tom Joyner asked.
“I’ve been blessed,” Wilson says. “I’ve been at this thing for so long.”
Wilson collaborates with just about everyone in the business these days regardless of genre, from his longtime friend Snoop Dogg to the always-controversial Kanye West. Wilson says he’s known Kanye’s family for a long time, but was hesitant to work with West given his reputation.
“I didn’t know if she was going to be fashionably late or rapper late which is about 3 hours late,” Wilson says. “When I got there, he was there before I was, and we just went to talking and laughing about his mom and his family and we started recording… I must have cut about 14 songs with him.”
Even the TJMS crew, who’s seen it all and then some, is excited to see Wilson on the cruise.
“We can not wait,” Sybil Wilkes said.
If you want to catch up to Charlie even before the Fantastic Voyage 2014, sets sail from Miami on the Carnival Conquest on March 16 and heads down to St. Thomas before returning on March 23, here are some tour dates for the rest of this year. Wilson joins Ice Cube and George Clinton, Katt Williams, John Legend, Chante Moore, Heads of State, Shaggy and Nelly on what is sure to be one of the most memorable cruises in FV history.
