Dallas, TX (August 12, 2013) REACH Media Inc. today announced that comedian, author, actor and television personality D.L. Hughley has been signed to host a weekday radio broadcast, with a launch date to be announced in the near future. THE D.L. HUGHLEY SHOW will be a daily themed, music intensive afternoon drive program from 3-7pm ET hosted by one of the brightest comedic minds. The show will be distributed by REACH Media Inc. which currently reaches an audience of over 12 million listeners, predominantly African American, through radio, as well as digital media.

Hughley, ready to take people on a no holds ride of humor and reality in the afternoons, stated, “I’m very excited to get back to radio and it couldn’t have come at a better time.  I think radio fits my sensibility.  I want to be fast, I want to be funny, I want to be topical.  I want to make people laugh a lot and think a little. Some people want to push the envelope – I want to see if I can singe it a little.”

Hughley established himself as a stand-up comedian propelling to stardom with the Original Kings of Comedy Tour and a subsequent movie release. He went on to have a hit television show, The Hughleys, and has followed that up with a successful best-selling book, comedy specials, and television appearances.  Known for being astute and politically savvy in true comedian style, D.L. served as host of his own talk show on CNN, D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. In 2013 Hughley was awarded a Peabody Award for his work on The Endangered List, a satirical documentary that sought to get “American black men the same EPA protections afforded snail darters.”

According to REACH Media CEO David Kantor, “D.L. is the right personality to provide a new style of content in afternoon drive time. The D.L. Hughley Show will be engaging and fun, along with great music.”

Cumulus Media Networks will partner with REACH Media Inc. in affiliation and other aspects of the show.

I don’t like it one bit. Skip is excellent and he and Jasmine make a great team. It’s all about ratings though. At the end of the day, personally, I’m not necessarily looking for jokes…but real, relaxing conversation between grown folks on the drive home…

I never thought D. L. Hughley was entertaining. Still do not know how he got in the line up of the Kings of Comedy. I actually would prefer Skip over him. The first day was not good. I will give the show a chance this week to see if I will be turning the station. I turned it the first day of D.L. so if I turn it over all week to another station then I am going to have to listen to Pandora.

    • WOW!! I NEVER thought I would hear that ANYONE prefers Skip over D L. Oh well, we all have our opinions. Skip was OK, just not THAT entertaining to me. I’m a D L fan, so I am biased.

I think d.l. show will be great, skip murphy tried, but everyone just wasn’t feeling him, like they did Micheal Baisden. Now with D.L. coming on it may give some Micheal Baisden supporters hope. Don’t forget Doug Banks and George Wilbourn.

DL Hughley’s TV show was on before The kings of Comedy. I dont know how that propelled him to stardom when he was already a bonafide star. I hope they taking Skip Murphy off! I listened to it a few times to give it a chance but it is the worse. Now my drive home is quiet time! LOL

I will not be tryin to listen to Dl I personally don’t like some of the things he said about Black women so if he is on here in KC I will turn off the radio but I am afraid he will replace the ASkip guy who is just OK

  7. Say it isn’t so. What is public radio going to. The answer is who you know not what you know. Please
Please not 106.3 fm well I have SiriusXM in auto and home.

  8. Good for DL because we have Skip Murphy Cleveland WZAK and that show is really bad. I know he’s TJMS family member, but his show is just absolutely awful! It seemed rushed and put together because M. Baisden was removed from the air waves.

  9. WOW!! Good to hear this. Congrats DL!! I will definitely be listening. Does anyone know what’s up with Michael Baisden. I hope Mike lands a TV talk show. He would be great. I’d rather see Baisden with a talk show than Queen Latifah. No offense Queen….but the prior talk shows I’ve seen you on were boring.

    • I agree, I like this idea and I think D.L. will do well. I have been wondering about Mike Baisden. I’m sure he is working on something. He is probably on twitter and facebook communicating. Not sure how Queen Latifah got a talk show AGAIN!! I wish her the best, but I’m not feelin it.
Skip Murphy is terrible. Skip is OK to me, the co-host Jasmine to me is the BIG problem. She has a big mouth, always running her mouth. Seems like she is just trying to hard!! Michael Baisden raised the bar for afternoon radio talk shows and Skip’s show is NOWHERE near Mike’s. Skip is a good dude though. I wish him the best.
