Our collective outrage after the Trayvon Martin verdict has a welcome upside – a galvanized protest movement sweeping the country hoping to persuade the Justice Department to bring federal charges against Trayvon’s killer George Zimmerman. To that end, Al Sharpton and the National Action Network are organizing a 100 city vigil on Saturday, July 20, at federal buildings around the United States. Trayvon’s parents, Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will join the vigils in New York City and Miami, respectively. To follow updates and to organize your own vigil, go to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s website or follow the National Action Network on Twitter @NationalAction.
For other Trayvon related protest and activism related info you can also follow @JoeBriggsEsq on Twitter and/or view tweets with the hashtag #NoJusticeNoSleep.
For other protests, vigils and current info on the Trayvon Martin case and the push to urge the Justice Department to try the case in the federal courts, Daniel Maree, founder of the Million Hoodie movement, has established a frequently updated website with current info.
Here are a list of cities with vigils planned for Saturday with contact info for organizers (from National Action Network).
