Rohan Marley, the father of singer Lauryn Hill’s five kids, is calling Wyclef Jean a liar.

As Jean made his media rounds last week promoting his book, Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story, he discussed his former relationship with Fugees band mate Lauryn Hill including the confusion of him fathering her first child.

During interviews last week, Jean claimed he had an affair with Hill in 1996 while he was with his current wife, Marie Claudinette. He shared that Hill told him he was the father of her first child, Zion David and he even showed up at the hospital for the birth. He added that Rohan Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, was not present.

Jean said that it was not until he saw the child that he realized he was not the father.

Marley is now denying all of Jean’s claims and believes he is spreading rumors for sheer publicity.

“[Wyclef] knew from jump that was my son from the day [Lauryn] was pregnant,” Marley told reporters.

Marley acknowledged the relationship between Hill and Jean but said the affair ended before he started dating her. He even credits Jean for bringing them together.

“They were definitely not messing around, or he would never have given me the okay,” Marley said.

Marley also explained that he and Hill spent many days and nights together in the studio following her relationship with Jean suggesting the relationship between the band mates didn’t last long.

Marley also shot down the claim that he was not there for his son’s birth.

“There is no way that I would have shown up in the hospital in the circumstance to wait for a baby to be born if it was not mine. The idea of a memoir is to tell the truth. I know that often the truth hurts, but a lie hurts even more,” Marley said.
