A new movement is rising against Republicans by encouraging women to “Rock the Slut Vote.”

The new website, created by Susan McMillan Embry aims to turn the derogatory word into one of empowerment.

“If the GOP thinks that throwing the word ‘slut’ at us at this point is going to silence women they have another thing coming,” Embry said.

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh was highly criticized after calling Susan Fluke a slut for standing before Congress in support of contraceptives.

Embry formed the site as a way to voice her outrage to Limbaugh’s comments as well as legislative efforts to restrict access to abortion and contraceptives.

“It has evolved in the last few months from being my own personal avenue to let out a holler on what’s happening to something that we hope will make a significant impact,” Embry said.

The website lists 22 ways that “you know you’re a slut” including if you used birth control and if you do not attend church.

Embry hopes to turn the tides and votes against the Republican agenda with the website.

However, critics believe Embry’s site may be a hard sell.

A Kaiser Heath Tracking Poll shows that only three out of ten women believe that there is a large effort to limit access to reproductive health resources. Also, only 5 percent of women say they want candidates to focus on women’s health as opposed to other issues like the economy.

Even though the political interest may be low, the merchandise on Embry’s site including T-shirts and bumper saying “Rush Limbaugh thinks I’m a slut” are selling quickly.
