A Michigan teacher is claiming that she was fired because she helped students start a Trayvon Martin fundraiser in her class.

The teacher, Brooke Harris, 26, is a non-union teacher at Pontiac Academy and was fired by the school without a problem.

She was initially suspended by the school and then fired. Now, numerous organizations and groups are calling for her reinstatement in the school.

“One of the main things that I don’t want to get lost is that I still think it is a great school,” Harris said in an exclusive interview with TheGrio. “I still want my job back. It’s got a great administration based on ability and it has a great staff that’s really dedicated to the kids.”

Harris was twice named the school’s “Teacher of the Year” and had no previous infractions at the school.
