Dr. Cornel West says that President Barack Obama doesn’t deserve to be sworn in for his second term as President of the United States with his hand on the bible of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“You don’t play with Martin Luther King, Jr. and you don’t play with his people, said West. “By his people, I mean people of good conscience, fundamentally good people committed to peace and truth and justice, especially the Black tradition that produced it.
“All of the blood, sweat and tears that went into producing a Martin Luther King, Jr. generated a brother of such high decency and dignity that you don’t use his prophetic fire for a moment of presidential pageantry without understanding the challenge he represents to all of those in power regardless of what color they are.
“The righteous indignation of a Martin Luther King, Jr. becomes a moment of political calculation. And that makes my blood boil. Why? Because Martin Luther King, Jr died…he died…for the three crimes against humanity that he was wrestling with. Jim Crow, traumatizing, terrorizing, stigmatizing Black people. Lynching, not just ‘segregation’ as the press likes to talk about.
“Second: Carpet bombing in Vietnam killing innocent people, especially innocent children, those are war crimes that Martin Luther King , Jr. was willing to die for. And thirdly, was poverty of all colors, he said it is a crime against humanity for the richest nation in the world to have so many of it’s precious children of all colors living in poverty and especially on the chocolate side of the nation, and on Indian reservations and Brown barrios and yellow slices and Black ghettos — we call them hoods now, but ghettos then.
“So I said to myself ain’t nothing wrong with putting your hand on the bible, even though the bible’s talking about justice, Jesus is talking about the least of these, but when you put it on Martin’s bible, I said ‘this is personal for me,’ because this is the tradition that I come out of.”
Dr. West continues to say that President Obama’s actions as president are in direct contradiction to the principles and beliefs of Dr. King, and then presents hypothetical questions that he would ask the slain Civil Rights leader if he were alive today:
“Brother Martin Luther King, Jr., what you say about the New Jim Crow? What would say about the Prison Industrial Complex? What would you say about the invisibility of so many of our prisoners, so many of our incarcerated, especially when 62 percent of them are there for soft drugs and not one executive of a Wall Street bank gone to jail. Not one. Martin doesn’t like that. Not one wire-tapper, not one torturer under the Bush Administration — all,” said West.

Pingback: Professor Cornell West talks about Obama using MLK's Bible | getmybuzzup
Many Black activists strongly believe that they have to maintain and sustain a “combative mind”. Moreover, they emphasize clearly that they have earned their fame and reputation. A bible is just a bible. It is not more sacred because of the hands that used to hold it or the hands that are holding it. Is is sometimes very wise and humble not to have an opinion when one is not really needed.
If CW would have received a position in this administration he would not be so critical of President Obama. It is okay for him to state his opinion, but personally he should have kept it private, and should be proud of any milestone people of color can make. Besides it is only a Bible, Dr. King would have been proud. His work involving voter rights and civil rights are now measurable.
J.EARL Loving, Jr. Why do you continue to whine and whimper? Perhaps you should run and see what folowing you have except T.S.?
Dr King was a minister who preached the words of love from the bible. He used the walk of Jesus as the foot print on how we should treat others despite the wrong they have done against you. The bible that the President used was symbolic to the Dr. King’s life and what he fought and lost his life for using the bible as his focus and weapon to defeat injustice. King was about love and care and concerns for others and who are we to judge whether or not he would’ve support the President. I would say yes, the dream realize with alot of work ahead of us to establish justice for everyone.
Tavis and Cornell thought the President was going to give them something special when he was elected and now they are angry. President Obama is President of all the people not just African Americans or Cornball. If you guys can’t be part of the solution stop being ignorant. All that education and still you are fools.
Perhaps Dr. West should have kept his opinion to himself just this once, for the good of America and especially African Americans…. Can’t we stick together even one time?!!! We are sooo selfish. Let us begin to lift each other up so we can reach new heights. Also, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. The election is over. Let’s support our president.
Are you all serious? Dr.West is 100% right! How can you allow Obama to be sworn in on MLK’s bible when Obama’s belief are complete opposite of what Dr.King stood for. First off Ralph you are incorrect about Dr.West. He has been aressted and jailed for his beliefs just like King. Lets be factual! Moving on, Obama is a puppet and yall are being entertained like children. Open your eyes to reality. Dr.King was peaceful, Obama is not. Don’t believe me, ask the thousands close to million of families crying over thier loved ones who died at the command of Obama. Look how Obama ignores the NATIONAL CRISIS going on in Chicago. It’s a war zone. Brothers are gunning each other down daily!!! Obama want step foot in chi-town! His city!!! I’m sure if dr.King was here he would be coming up with a solution! I understand where Dr.West is coming from and I’m happy he said it! BTW, tell me what Dr.West would have to hate on! Everybody that doesn’t agree with Obama isn’t a hater. It’s called an opinion
Are YOU serious? This President has done everything except get down his knees and tried to solve the problems of this country and without the help of Republicans and those who criticize him. People outright calling for his assissination, calling him and his family animals, etc., you should be ashamed of the comments you made. If he hasn’t solved some problems or been able to address some, neither did the ones who came before him and created this mess. Dr. King would be so proud of him, just as his supporters are. Stop the hate and give love a chance.
EARTH, your comments are just plain ridiculous.
Who are West and Smiley to say who can or cannot use something that does not belong to them?West is just a sad old man, and Smiley is just sad– too bad.
Its a Bible GOD words not MLK words.
Anyone who has purchased their books should return them to the store and if you don’t have a receipt, exchange it for something else. They don’t deserve your money a couple of hatin clowns!!!!
The sad part is that there is some truth to what Dr West and Tavis says. What’s even worse is that black people are so brainwashed by their conscious to support the black president, they fail to hold him accountable for failures. I supported the president however the aforementioned examples by Dr West can not be argued. As a CHRISTIAN would you think MLK would support GAY marriage? Notice how those who disagree with Dr West and Tavis resort to name-calling instead of intelligently debating the issues. I agree with most of the Presidents issues, however I disagree with some also. I think its far worse to TAKE SOMEONE for granted than to call them an uncle Tom. We have to realize that just because you disagree with the president it DOESN’T mean you do not support him.
What you don’t seem to understand is that Dr. King supported CIVIL RIGHTS, which includes not discriminating against anyone for any reason and the Bible I read teaches us to love everyone and doesn’t give us the right to judge anyone for who they are so the president’s position is a civil rights position, not a spiritual one! We all fall short which means none of us are perfect and in God’s eyes no one sin is greater than another! That being said, I believe Dr. King would’ve supported the “CIVIL RIGHTS” of everyone because once you discriminate against anyone you oppose civil rights (civil being the key word)! There are some people to this very day that believe blacks should be denied civil rights so who judges what groups should be discriminated against? I’m straight, black, married and a Christian just in case you were wondering!
No one is brainwashed, Would you rather Romney be in office? MLK may not have supported gay marriage but he had no problem cheating on his wife many many times. sin is sin.
Your comment is so racist. Why do black people have to be brainwashed as you put it? You and others with similar comments act as if black people don’t have a brain to think for themselves. Well, I certainly don’t need the people like Cornell West and Tavis Smiley to think for me I know that voting for President Obama was one of the best decisions I’ve made. God bless him and his administration while they turn this country around.
well well why would he say those thing, i guess we all have forgotten that this is america and you can have your own opinion, but this time i cannot agree with the dr. the president has his right to do what he feels is good for the country, so of us will never learn.
Cornell needed to make a controversial statement — need some media time, got books to sell — because Tavis made one. Ya’ll do know Tavis and Cornell are paid by Walmart and Wells Fargo Bank for their verbal noise, since it serves their long game agenda (let’s not forget both corporations are/were members of ALEC).
Hey folks!! Get a freaking GRIP!! Dr. King is DEAD!!! Ok? DEAD!!!! I’m willing to bet everything I own that Dr. West ain’t willing to die or be jailed for his “beliefs”!! Hypocrite!
I think we all can agree to disagree. Name calling makes folks looks stupid and lack a “real” agruement. I wish Dr. West, Travis Smiley, and the President can sit down and talk out an issue along with ALL BLACKS folks because WE ALL need to do better. I do not degrade anyone who is trying to uplift our community regardless if it is black leaders, Dr. West, Tavis, or the President. I think it is time we stop being a race a people who depend of a FEW blacks to do a job that we ALL need to help do and we can do it and discuss it like “civilize” people.
Cornell and Tavis have agendas that actually have nothing to do with President Obama. Believe it or not, their issues aren’t that deep and actually have nothing to do with US poverty. But poverty is the foil for their media whoring and book promotions. Think about it: what actual changes resulted from Tavis’ annual hot air fests, aka summits. What actually progress resulted from their :”poverty tour?” Their followers, like Beck’s, Coulter’s, all other faux pundits will follow them because what they say is what these people choose to believe. Doesn’t make it the truth.
The Sad part is that people always say Black people have no unity. And by reading this I can truly see it. I belive Dr. King would have been proud to have Obama use his bible. Dr. West you have no reason to use Dr. King’s bible
Dr West and Tavis ,need’s metal help. Instead of running around the country talking to poor
people, and the hate they have for our President . It would better use of their time by helping those
communities generate small business in those poor communities . Go talk to the corporation about
helping start new business.Don’t Talk it be about it.Talk is cheep !
I recently attended a program here in the Triangle honoring Dr. West and Tavis Smiley. Listening to them made me so very proud, since I could assess just where they were coming from with their comments about what the President has or has not done in regard to the poor of our society as was the final thrust of Dr. King’s message to the world. As much as I may not like to do so, I have to agree that they do have the right to express countering opinions of the President and his accomplishments, whatever they may be. While I agree with them both that the President has missed the mark in many instances that do not even have to do with race — i.e. continuing the drone program, which would have been counteractive to any Dr. King policy he would have promoted, it is my opinion that perhaps in this instance they still may have “stepped over the line a bit” when using the term “deserves.” That is subject purely to opinionation; and I do believe that if the King Family gave permission for Dr King’s Bible to be used, then they should be the last word on the “deserving” aspect. Perhaps they should have stated that Obama’s administration does not deserve the comparison to King’s achievements and advocacy, and I would say at this time they are right. That’s a totally other thing, however. As the old folk used to say, sometimes its not what you say but the way that you say it. I do see where they are coming from and agree with them in a certain respect, I just wish they had been more careful and less caustic in their form of expression.
The main thing that we who are his detractors must realize and keep to the forefront is that I believe President Obama isn’t even the man he thought he himself would be as President. He never could have foreseen the oppressive, counteractive political environment he would have to undergo as the first African-American president — with a House that declared they wanted him to fail — without ever realizing that that would be tantamount to saying they want or don’t care if the country fails — just to prevent him from being a successful president. Obama never would have predicted that the racist crazies all around this country would have come out and ranted and raved to high heaven. It really is a blessing that President Obama has kept his stability in the face of such opposition. What we have to look for is the gaining of Democratic seats (and not Blue Dogs) in 2014. It is the last two years of his administration that I look forward to his making his greatest gains.
Until then, yes, Tavis and Dr. West, keep the pressure on. He has to be able to respond to the pressure from the outside to give him cause to make the necessary changes — just as the very unfortunate Sandy Hook massacre has forced him to take action on gun control. We must learn that these outside pressure measures can have their validity in the end. In the meantime, we just ask you to please curb your speech just a bit more and give this President an opportunity to live out the meaning of his possibilities. You did so beautifully at that program I heard you from in the N.C. Triangle two weeks ago. Continue to bring your truth to light — but watch what your grandmothers would tell you: “It’s not what you say, its the way that you say it” that often makes the difference in this world.
Shamefully, too few of our people comprehend what you are saying and trying to do and say. They way they put you both down is heart-rending and shameful. We have to pray for their lack of comprehension. They need to learn the same lesson from their own grandmothers as well.
Keep the Faith and Keep on Pushing Onward.
Do you really believe these brothers are doing this for poor people? Don’t get me wrong i believe they care but this thing they have with Obama is about both of them feeling slighted by him. Go back to the very beginning of their relationship and look at all the interviews, they loved him to death! As soon as Obama didn’t come when they called the both went crazy and have been on a rampage every since. Obama haven’t talked to and have ignored these guys since 2008 and they are mad as hell!
Felicia that is it in a nut shell and they are acting like two jealous ex-girlfriends. It is time for them to put up and shut up. I want to see what they are doing for the poor black community other than trying to get them to side with them on hating President Obama.
What’s happened to West and Smiley makes me very sad. I used to enjoy their Black American forums, even though I knew the guests were mostly posturing for the cameras, ESPECIALLY West. AND, no action ever came from the forums. That is unless you call a new book by Tavis or Smiley, action. I KNEW when they started this so-called poverty crusade that there would be a book, and sure enough, just as the campaign started, they released their “latest” book.
They are personally offended because the President didn’t recognize them as THE spokespersons for Black people–which they NEVER were.
They have marginalized themselves by PRETENDING to attack poverty, yet every other word that comes out of their mouths is NOT poverty, but Obama. Or as Tavis said at his forum, “Barack Hussein Obama.” (Said in the same contemptible way that tea party republicans and birthers say his name.) He also said this while sitting on the stage with a smiling Newt Gingrich at his side.
AND, it was the same forum where West broke into his tirade.
West’s obvious hateful obsession with Obama is becoming pathological. The man is falling apart before our eyes, and Tavis is egging him along. He has officially moved over into the land of CRACKPOT. He looks, dresses and acts like a Crackpot–he was almost foaming at the mouth the other day. So……….if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck……..
Why wouldn’t Professor Cornel West consider President Obama’s use of MLK’s bible an honor? In Dr. King’s I had a dream speech he said “I may hot be able to make it there with you”, but the inauguration’s piste resitonce culminated with the bible being a major presence. Let’s stop and think legacy for a minute here.
Is this clown for real–if Dr. King were here today, he would be the first to present President Obama his Bible to use at the ceremony. Every African American in the US knows Dr West & Tavis did not support the President. They saw a bright, loving, caring brother who spoke for our people and not just to hear himself speak. We all have flaws—Mr. West and Tavis just met a brother who is a little more articulate that them and felt threatened. Just wait until he leaves office—Mr. West And Tavis will then be 2nd and third in line
(I think) as intellectual (so they think) African American speakers on the circuit.
I think Dr West and Tavis need metal help. It’s sad too see 2 people with such hate for our President.
Also in stead of running around the country talking to poor people, they need to help generate business for those communities by with
working big corporation’s to help those people, talk is cheep !
DBH
What is REALLY unintelligent, is that we actually thought that an African American president would waltz into the White House and make Black issues his priority. Black issues should be OUR priority Cornell. Get up out of your comfy arm chair where you spout ideologies and do some real work! The Middle Class is the backbone of America; he had to shore up the Middle Class. He spent is first 4 years in office righting the wrongs that had been done, fixing problems. How do you think the poor get supported, you great Intelligentsia?! They are supported by the Middle Class! Who gets policy passed on behalf of poor people? The Middle Class! But if the MIddle Class is struggling, they can’t help anybody or speak and rally on behalf of ANYBODY! And it’s usually the WHITE Middle Class that takes the lead on such activism. NOT your Cornell Wests. On the drone issue. Is it a horrible shame that innocents have to die when drones are used? Absolutely! But yes sir, that’s the casualty of war, and as much as I, myself, am opposed to war, I am not so naive that the first Black president is going to waltz into office and end a millenium’s long problem, and bring and end to all wars. Get real! Didn’t he get Osama Bin Laden. You whined when Bush didn’t go after him. Now you’re whining because Obama did get him. Isn’t he ending that entire fiasco and cleaning up the mess? There has been a plethora of governmental atrocities that you could have organized and mobilized the masses about, but YOU DIDN’T! Now, you want to put the weight of the world on one man?! Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was not the President of the United States. And if you love him so much, where is your outcry against those who say he, himself, was a sell out – that he delivered the I Have a Dream Speech several times – that he had extramarital affairs – that he was afraid to speak out against the war at first because he feared losing his white support that financed his activities, that he was friends with L.B. J. and when that relationship went sour, THEN, he spoke out. No, you House Slaves won’t speak out against those voices, but you berate the Pres. out of pure jealously. Tavis thought HE was going to be the next MLK and he’s afraid Black folk might start thinking of Obama as the next MLK. And Cornell West is simply Tavis’ yes man. You’re afraid YOU won’t be the model and example of a Black man held up before our Black youth. You want to talk about the sickness in the Black community? You are the manifestation. At a time when our young people have an opportunity to be inspired, to be uplifted, to be motivated, to see what they can become, not just Pres of the US, but a decent Black man with a healthy Black family, you want to destroy that image for your own self aggrandizement. You have profited from your negation of President Barack Obama. I simply raised my eyebrows at you 4 years ago; now. Even when you made that idiotic statement to Minister Louis Farrakhan in Houston about not getting your children out of a burning house; for the sake of Tavis’ Town Hall meeting which was merely the promotion of his book, you turned the audience against Minister Farrakhan, now you’re trying to turn people against the Pres. I have lost all of my respect for you.
Amen Norma!! Amen & Amen!!!
Norma I wish Tavis and Cornell would read your comment because if they did they would probably see what others see but I am sure they won’t but still you wrote a wonderful piece. Thanks.
Cornell, you and Tavis, really need to seek help! It is really amazing how the truth about Dr King, can get twisted and turned, and then turned into Gospel.Cornell must think he is frederick douglas, going by the way he always dresses, and wears his hair. But the ranting and raving that he is doing over the President, makes me beleive, the brother has lost it someplace. Both are still angry that the President never attended their function years ago,and they still hold a grudge. These two, will never overcome!
Dr West you are better thant those comments, think about supporting the POTUS. Tavis, stop hating. So he did not show up w/Hillary for your event, let it go man. Suppor the POTUS. Together make this world is little better than what it is now.
I think there is something seriously wrong with Cornel and Tavis…I don’t see or hear of them doing anything for the people. It is so sad to see that they can’t respect the President enough to go to him with their ideas. They are acting like children, and we wonder why children act up, take a good look at these two so called MEN!!!!!
I always thought West was an idiot!! Talk about a hating arse kneegrow, he’s a disgrace!! smh
further more west, you are saying exactly what those white folks want to hear, coming from a tom. so go on and kiss their arsss.
Dr West’s comments, respectfully, do not make sense. He says he’s about ‘preserving the legacy and ideals of Dr. King but it was the family of Dr King who requested President Obama perform this service. Who has more right to do so and who knows Dr. King’s legacy better than his own family? His comments are a virtual insult to the family of the man whose ideals he’s supposedly promoting. 2nd, President Obama has been promoting many of the very ideas of which Dr. West is supposedly in support. Dr. West’s ramblings show his ignorance of President Obama and lack of support for the very ideas of which he speaks. What would Dr. King say I believe? “Dr. West, my legacy is intact and continuous! Your words take us backwards, not forward. Your unsupported ramblings against President Obama continue the legacy of African Americans not supporting positive African Americans and for that you should be ashamed! Try listening to the ideas you say you support. You might learn something!”
west where were you sunday and monday? Dr. King died for our Rights as stated in The U.S. Constitution. Human Equality, and Justice! Did you even visit him and his family on Sunset? Did your your children go to school with his? Well i did. Did you hear what The President said in his speach?
Dr West and Mr Smiley are simply “:Crabs in a Pot” Shameful!!!!
Sometimes we call ignorance wisdom and stupidity knowledge. Proverbs 14:7 says: Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge. The NIV versions says: Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.
I agree with Marcia, I don’t care whether this man is right about somethings or not, because he throws tantrums 99.9% of the time nobody wants to listen to him. We say we are for the Black Nation but we put the Black Nation down every chance we get! So do that make us better than they are or do that make us equal to those who judge/criticize our Black Nation…Mr. West?
You think when you open your mouth like this that those people honor you, care for you, no they laugh and say why should we do the enemies work they will destroy each other and themselves!
I meant to say “That’s what Mr. West has become guilty of!”
Cornel West is so intelligent that he’s crossed over to a level of ignorance that may suggest that he’s burnt out! This is what we call “Crabs in a Bucket” because we are our own worst enemy! Mr. West needs to understand that none of us are perfect, including Dr. Martin Luther King! Because of where we as blacks have come from we can least afford this type of “Black on Black” crime, which is exactly what Mr. West has become! His attacks on America’s first Black President rivals that of gang violence because it can do just as much damage or even more!
West, you need to shut the hell up!
What has he done for us black people he wants the president to do? What programs has he started to help us Black people? I tell you people with book sense has no darn common sense at all. Shut up or put up West.
Barbara,
Dr. West and Tavis Smiley shows that some Blacks are direct descendants of JUDAS!!
Why does Mr. West and his partner think that President Obama should just work on black people issues, should black people also work on thier own issues too. Must the president walk with us all in hand to make us move or should we be able to also move by ourselves. I have not heard of no big projects that West and Smiley are working on in Detroit, if anyone knows, please speak up.
Poor guy. He needs stronger meds.
We can solve 99% of the problems that plague the Black community WITH OUT President Obama. To put so much pressure on one man to resolve problems that have been around for decades if not centuries is ridiculous. 99% of our problems can be resolved through economic empowerment through supporting Black-owned business and keeping money in the communities. Money fixes a lot…
All of us successful African American born after 1960 are direct result of MLK’s dream. Thus using MLK’s Bible is very appropriate. I respect Cornel West and he makes some valid points. However, I respectfully disagree with him.
Between Dr.West and “stupido” Tavis, I don’t know who the biggest Jack Ass is, they have done absolutely nothing for our people but talk, talk, talk…….. These two idiots are pissed because they were not invited to the White House the first term and guess what, they won’t be invited the second term either! Now, go somewhere and sit down!
Have we become so niave about racism that we should attack Cornell West. The smart intelligent Blacks get in. Our President agenda has not included Blacks or poor. Now this term we will see if he will put the latter agenda ahead of the gay agenda. I am going on record that he will be the only President pushing the gay agenda because the Republicans and Hillary will not push it. Plus, remember Cornell and Tavis are close to Hillary, so the table will turn four years from now. So all who are who are pushing the hate agenda towards West and Smiley get it in now. This is our last assault on the White House. There will be no Beyonce, Jayzee, or pertaining performing at the White House. I pray that he straighten up this racist country and the hidden agenda to destroy Black America. We joke and laugh but Colin Powell, Cornell West, Tavis Smiley, Bill Clinton, the smart Blacks and the streets get it, but America especially in the entertainment world, is letting it pass them by. We do not all agree with the President and we do not all agree with the Democratic Party and we do not all agree with the Republican, Green, or Tea-Party. Lets push the Black and poor agenda. God Bless.
You need to get Life My Brother Sports Rev you sound dumb just like the both of them
Sports Rev, Cornell nor Tavis actually have a clue what black ppl want or need.. listening to them is wasted earwax.. how bout you big mouths help some that cant help themselves. Its not about the color of one skin.. and what difference whose Bible was used.. A BIBLE WAS USED!
… shut up and get a comb!
Amen to that!
Cornell started this attack. He made the statement about the President so he has to take his licks. It would have been nice just once to hear them talk about trying to help the President. And by the way this President is there for all the people and issues not just Black and Poor. Did the people before him do anything for the poor and black? Did Cornell attack them for the Bible they used? Did you make these stements about the past Presidents. You must either be a self-hating black or one of those racist who called the President and his family names and posted pics of them as animals and called for his assination. Or, one of those “Christians” who hate him so much. Those are the things you should be arguing for or against (as appropriate). Remember who put this President in office. Now that we know our power, we will elect who we want
THANK YOU LADYDAY YOUR COMMENTS ARE EXACTLY RIGHT!!!!!
West get a freaking life you and Tavis want so much to be great your drowning. If Dr. Kings family didn’t mind and Dr. Kings own sister was honored then what in the hell do you and hating ass Tavis have to say. You jokers only make these comments in public. Both of you are counter productive to black causes. And to be educated black men, something is truly wrong. Willie Lynch theory is truly alive and well. By the way @ AAAAntwan what has the republican party done for blacks lately. Nothing!! I guess you missed what happened this past election, “Landslide” ass whoopin. We as blacks, Spanish and White people didn’t buy into that bull your selling. Obama’s not perfect, there is always room for growth. But if you armchair QB’s can do better, run for office. Then again you are GOP brainwashed. If there’s a fire at the Massa’s house I’m sure I know three stooges that will race to put it out.
Mr. West since I’ve known you, I have always held you in high regards. I read your side of the controversy that I have heard you and Mr. Tavis Smiley have been going throughout the country speaking out against Pres. Obama. It is rediculous and seem to stem from nothing but pure envy. It sadden me to see, it is our own people , not white people who hurts us the most.Mr. Obama is the President of the United States not the President of the Black People. He cannot in 4 or 8 yrears erase centries of human inhumanity, racism, slave mentality, solve the problem between Arabs and Jews,( which has been going on since bibical times) and solve all the economic issues, prison issues, energy, health insurance issues, proverty, declining wages, climate changes, global warming and all those other things you expect him to do something about. In regard to the struggle of our race, one person can’t do it all, we all take on a different piece of the problem and work toward the same goal, the spiritual, economical, educational and social elevation of our people. While you and Mr Smiley are running back and forth through the country trying to be a block in the road for Pres. Obama, what are you all doing to contribute your part to this struggle. Dr King gave the ultimate sacrifice, by laying down his life, there is no greater gift. What sacrifice are you and Mr Smiley willing to give for the greater good. Pres. Obama put his life on the line everyday, because of the lever of hate and racism that is in the country. Are you that brave? Where is your contribution? It is easy to talk when you are on the outside looking in, but if you had to trade places you would see things are not always as cut and dried as you may think. You are a smart man, but I think the President is smarter. There hasn’t been anyone in that position with that much intellegence in a long time,if ever and I don’t think you could nor Mr. Smiley do any better
I am a black republican I agree with Dr.West.The King family should have step in and told obama no.Let him use Robert Byrd bible the KKK member he supported obama had a chance to put the first black female on the us supreme court twice.Don Lemon was over looked twice by obama as the first black gay press secretary.obama could car less about blacks look at his administration.
Martin Luther King III was there on the podium witnessing the POTUS being swore in, and also requested that the POTUS autograph his father’s bible before it was return it to the library.
You forgot to mention that you are a WHITE NIGGER HATING ON AN INTELLIGENT BROTHER!
Antwan, this may really pi$$ you off – the President autographed the King bible at the request of the family. They recognize that the President is carrying on the legacy of Dr. King.
Where were you when the King children were being interviewed before the Inauguration, talking about how PROUD they were that the President was going to use the bible? And didn’t you see Martin Luther King III and his wife standing behind Chief Justice Roberts during the swearing in? You sound as delusional as West and Smiley are.
Don Lemon as Press Secretary, are you Serious??? You first have to be QUALIFIED for those positions. I like Lemon, but he’s got a ways to go before he can stand in front of the Washington press. Why aren’t you asking CNN why Don Lemon isn’t the first black white house correspondent for CNN. That’s something he’s qualified for.
Finally, Pres. Obama has THE most diverse administration in the history of that office. His staff and cabinet are 50% minority, WELL above their percentage in the population.

Dr. West…a rockefeller republican in black face..? nigger please…
Really Dr. West, who are you to proclaim who and who should not use Dr. King’s bible. I am sad that people like you talk and talk and talk and do absolutely nothing to help the situation but talk and I have yet to hear or see any action taken by you to support the causes you claim to support. You need to get off your high horse and down in the trenches and maybe we can take you seriously. Once you start backing up the talk with real action then maybe you have a right to say who can use what bible. Otherwise keep your comments to yourself
