  • “Although we had met a couple years prior at the 2010 Servicemembers Legal Defense Network annual dinner, we didn’t actually start dating until we both made it back to Washington D.C. two years later,” Phelps said.

The couple received an invitation to return to the White House for a tour making it the perfect opportunity for Phelps to pop the question.

“When we received an invitation from the Military Partners and Families Coalition to attend the White House holiday tour on Dec. 15, the coincidence that it would be the six-month anniversary of our first date—and also to the White House—was too big not to capitalize on,” Phelps said.

“Matthew has made me the happiest I’ve ever been and I am so fortunate that I get to spend the rest of my life with him,” Schock said.

Earlier this year a transgender man proposed to his fiancée at the White House.

    1. This is sick and I am tired of it. Since when did being gay become the black thing. Just because our President supports gay marriage doesn’t mean we as African Americans have to drop our morals and support it also. It is a diviant sex act and belongs behind closed doors where my children can’t see it.
