Denzel, Cheadle, ‘Django’ Among 2013 Golden Globe Nominees

Denzel Washington’s performance in “Flight,” Don Cheadle of Showtime’s “House of Lies” and the upcoming Jamie Foxx film “Django Unchained” were among the nominees announced this morning for the Golden Globe Awards, handed out annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press.

The Civil War epic “Lincoln” leads the nominees with seven, among them best drama, best director for Spielberg and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones.

“Django Unchained” has five nominations to tie for second-place with the Iran hostage-crisis thriller “Argo.” Each are nominated for best drama, along with the shipwreck story “Life of Pi” and the Osama bin Laden manhunt thriller “Zero Dark Thirty.”  “Django” co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz were nominated for supporting actor, and Quentin Tarantino received a directing and screenwriting nod, but no nomination for lead Foxx.

“Flight” star Washington will compete for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama with Daniel Day-Lewis (“Lincoln”), Richard Gere (“Arbitrage”), John Hawkes (“The Sessions”) and Joaquin Phoenix (“The Master”).

Nicole Kidman was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for her role in the Lee Daniels film “The Paperboy.”

HBO’s “Game Change” tops the television nominees, while Cheadle will compete in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series, Comedy for his role in “House of Lies.”  Also in the category, Alec Baldwin for “30 Rock,” Matt LeBlanc for “Episodes,” Louie C.K. for “Louie” and Jim Parsons for “Big Bang Theory.”

Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Ed Helms were on hand with the The Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Beverly Hilton this morning to name nominees in the 25 categories in film and television.

Winners will be announced at the Jan. 13 ceremony, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
