1. Ice Cube
He began his career as a member of the hip-hop group C.I.A. and later joined N.W.A. and now he’s added actor, screenwriter, film producer, and director to his resume. He most recently starred in ‘Ride Along’ with Kevin Hart. The pair are currently filming the highly anticipated sequel.
The hip hop duo formed in 1992 is composed of Atlanta-based rappers André “André 3000” Benjamin (formerly known as Dré) and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton. The duo is one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time, having received six Grammy Awards. Between six studio albums and a greatest hits release, Outkast has sold over 25 million records. In January 2014.
The hip hop recording artist and actor debuted in 1992, with the album Can I Borrow a Dollar? and maintained a significant underground following into the late 1990s. In 2011, Common launched Think Common Ent ertainment, his own record label imprint and in the past has released music under various other labels such as Relativity, Geffen and GOOD Music, among others. In 2014 heannounced his tenth studio album.
Best known for hits such as “Separated” (the remix to which features Kelly Rowland), “My First Love,” which one version features KeKe Wyatt, and “Read Your Mind”. His self-titled fifth album, Avant, was released on December 9, 2008. Avant is now signed to Verve Forecast and released his sixth studio album The Letter (formerly titled “Wake Up”) on December 21, 2010. He is currently still recording.
5. Jamie Foxx
Where should we begin? He’s an Oscar award winning actor and has dazzled us in many movies across the big screen. But before the bonafide actor he is today, the Terrell, Texas native started out as an aspiring singer and comedian. From the ‘Jamie Foxx Show’ to a few hot albums, Jamie has definitely risen to the top and continues to be a force in Hollywood.

Once known as “Brandy’s little brother”, the singer has come into his own. A sting of reality tv shows and a few smash singles has put the R&B singer back on the map.
We met him as one half of the Neptunes, but after a string of guest features on some of your favorite artists songs, Pharrell Williams took a stab at the solo life and has been riding high every since. His smash hit, ‘Happy’ has over 10 million downloads.
8. Montel Jordan
We don’t see much from the 90’s crooner anymore, but we can’t deny his hits that still follow us today.
The Atlanta rapper has come along way since his days of conrows and gold teeth. Nowadays you can see the father of two judging ABC’s ‘Rising Star’ or busy with a number of his business, including Conjure Congac and a host of others.
The 90’s group is best known for their hits ‘Too Close’ and ‘Wifey’. The trio has since disbanded but R.L., the group’s front runner, has started a promising solo career.
11. Malcolm-Jamal Warner
Best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the NBC sitcom “The Cosby Show,” Warner has since made a name for himself as not only an actor but also as a television director and musician. He currently fronts the LA jazz-funk band Miles Long, which plays under Warner’s label, Wonder Factory.
12. Dru Hill
Dru Hill is best known their R&B # 1 hits “In My Bed,” “Never Make a Promise,” and “How Deep is Your Love.”
13. LL Cool J
LL Cool J is known for romantic ballads such as “I Need Love,” “ Around the Way Girl,” and “ Hey Lover” as well as pioneering hip-hop such as “I Can’t live Without My radio,” and “ Mama Said Knock You Out.” Since releasing his last studio album LL Cool J has appeared in numerous films, including “Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and currently stars as NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna on the CBS crime Drama television series NCIS: Los Angeles.
14. Al B Sure!
Best known for his song “Night and Day,” Al B Sure! enjoyed a brief run as one of new jack swing’s most popular romantic singers. In 2009, he released his first album in 17 years entitled “Honey I’m Home.” During the following year Sure! appeared as one of the 12 contestants on the TV One reality television dating game show “The Ultimate Merger.”
15. Charlie Wilson
The former singer of “The Gap Band,” Charlie Wilson has been nominated for six Grammy awards, has been a recipient of a BMI Icon Award in 2005, received the Soul Train Icon Award in 2009, and the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Currently Charlie Wilson is on touring and has released a new album entitled “Love Charlie.”
16. Will Smith
Known for his songs such as “Getting Jiggy With It,” “Fresh Prince of Bel air,” and “Just the Two of Us,” Smith has made a bigger name for himself. He recently just filmed “After Earth” starring he and his son Jaden Smith.
17. John Stamos
John Stamos is a well-known actor best known for his role as Jesse Katsopolis on the ABC sitcom “Full House.” Since the ending of “Full House,” Stamos has appeared in numerous television films and series. In 2009, he began playing the role as Albert in the Broadway revival Bye Bye Birdie. Stamos’ most recent work was multi-episode arc as Dr. Carl Howell on the second season of the Fox series “Glee.”
18. Keith Sweat
Sweat is currently signed to Kedar Records and released his tenth studio album entitled Ridin’ Solo on June 22, 2010. The lead single taken from the album is “Test Drive” and featured label-mate Joe. Since 2007, Sweat has been the host of a nationally syndicated radio program based upon the Quiet storm format. “The Keith Sweat Hotel” is syndicated through Premiere Radio Networks.
The is best known for their singles such as “Come and Talk to Me,” “Love U 4 Life,” and “Forever My Lady.” According to an October 2009 interview with Devante Swing, Jodeci is signed to what Swing feels is an unfavourable contract with record label Interscope. Robert Tarpinian DeVante claims they are trying to get out of this contract. Swing also mentioned that he will be releasing a solo album in the near future.
“Let’s Chill” and “Groove Me” are two of Guy’s greatest hits. In 2011 Aaron and Damion preformed at BET Honors in Washington DC. “Guy brought the audience to its feet with new-jack-swing-era hits Let’s Chill and Groove Me.” – The Washington Post. The performance at BET Honors became a trending topic on Twitter when it aired on February 21, 2011. The duo appeared again on February 17, 2011 on the TV One Black History Month special “Way Black When.” As of 2013 Teddy Riley has announced he’s return to the group.
21. Bell Biv DeVoe
Since the release of their last album in 2001 BBD, Bell Biv DeVoe has continued to perform together as a group. They have participated in several New Edition reunions, and continue to perform with them on occasion. On May 30, 2013, Bell Biv DeVoe performed their hit song “Poison” for Boston Strong, a benefit concert to raise money for victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing. Currently the group is touring in the United States.
After an 8 year hitaus Maxwell returned with a platinum-selling BLACKsummers’night, the first of a trilogy. He performed his hit single “Pretty Wings” at the 2009 BET Awards. The full single made its world premier on the Tom Joyner Morning Show on April 28, 2009. Since then Maxwell has been touring and making appearances.
Early this year Prince has released a lyric video, announced a short West Coast tour with 3rdeyegirl as his backing band, along with announcing a deal with Kobalt Music and performing 3 nights at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
24. Lionel Richie
Recently Linonel Richie announced on The Today Show that he will launch “All the Hits All Night Long,” his first North American tour on over a decade. The tour will start September 18th in Hollywood, Florida and end October 18 in Los Angeles, California.
25. Boyz II Men
Boyz II Men continues to perform and make group appearances together. This year alone the group has appeared on The View, announced that beginning March 1, 2013 they will stop touring and begin performing shows at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Recently Usher performed on the 37th annual 4th of July Fireworks show by Macy’s which aired on NBC with a special soundtrack designed for the show featuring four of his own songs.
R. Kelly continues to create new music and perform live, his latest live performance was at the 2013 BET Awards. He also released “Write Me Back to Me” in 2012, which follows in the footsteps of stars such as Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass. That same year, Kelly published an autobiography, “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me”. Kelly explained his reason for writing the book on his website.
Ginuwine formed a group called TGT with group members Tyrese and Tank. Their debate album “3 Kings” was released this year and now the group has begun a touring in the United States.
There have been many changes to the group since their last album, Chauncey Hannibal has returned to the lineup while both Mark Middleton and Eric Williams are no longer with the group and are focusing on a separate group called Merj. Blackstreet now consists of Teddy Riley, Chauncey Hannibal, Dave Hollister and new members Lenny Harold & Tony Tyler. As of 2013 Blackstreet has been touring with Teddy Riley and Dave Hollister. The group announced this lineup is now known as BS2.
After the loss of band member “Dino” the remaining two members Solomon “Shazam” Conner and Darrrly “G.I.” Jackson released the single in 2009 “Knocking Your Heels” from their upcoming album “Child Support.”
31. New Edition
New Edition has made several appearances together. In 2005, the group preformed at BET’s 25th Anniversary Special singing hits such as “Mr. Telephone Man.” Since mid-August 2006 the group has been performing and touring, they currently have plans of scheduling their 30th anniversary tour.
32. Tevin Campbell
Currently Tevin Campbell is planning a comeback. In 2010, Campbell made an appearance on The Mo’Nique Show where he revealed that he was considering on making a comeback in the following years.
33. Tony! Toni! Tone!
The group hasn’t done much since their last album “House of Music,” Raphael Saadiq and D’wayne Wiggins have both released their own solo albums. In 2003, members of Tony! Toni! Toné!, except for Saadiq, were invited by Alicia Keys to be guest artists on her album “The Diary of Alicia Keys.” The song that resulted from that session was called “Diary,” and when it was released as a single in the fall of 2004, it gave them their first Top 10 US hit in eleven years. In 2013, the group began touring again.
Best known from his film “Baby Boy” and his appearances in the Fast and Furious series, Tyrese has successfully made the transition from R&B singer to actor. In early 2013, Tyrese confirmed that he is in a group with Ginuwine, and Tank on Atlantic Records. On April 10, 2013, Tyrese announced that he is working on a new album entitled “Black Rose,” expected to be released some time in 2014.
Today Babyface continues to write hit songs for artists such as Anthony Hamilton, the song “Pray For Me” was nominated for a Grammy in 2013.
36. Backstreet Boys
The Backstreet Boys celebrated their 20th anniversary, early this year with a fan celebration event in Hollywood that day. At the event, they previewed several songs from their forthcoming album, “In A World Like This,” scheduled to be released on July 30, 2013, along with showing a teaser of their documentary film which is scheduled to be released in 2014. The group also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 22, 2013, and had the day declared as Backstreet Boys Day in Hollywood. In May 2013, the group embarked on their 20th anniversary tour officially titled “In A World Like This Tour “which began in China.
37. El Debarge
In 2011, DeBarge began promoting his debut album “Second Chance” but had to cancel his public appearances due to a drug relapse. DeBarge has since returned and made an appearance at the 54th Grammy Awards in February. On May 11, 2013 El appeared in concert with Freddy Jackson, Charlie Wilson, and Jaheim at the Boardwalk Hall Atlantic City New Jersey.
As of today N’Sync remains on a hiatus and is unlikely to return as a group.
39. Bobby Brown
Brown has recently reunited with New Edition after serving 55 days in jail and he has performed solo at the Gathering of Juggalos. Bobby Brown is still coping over the loss of his ex-wife Whitney Houston which whom he shares a daughter with.
40. Johnny Gill
In July 2010, Notifi Records, based out of St. Louis, MO, signed Gill to a recording contract. On October 11, 2011, 16 years after recording his last solo album, he released his recent studio album Still Winning. off the single In “The Mood.”
41. Jagged Edge
In 2011 Jagged Edge released an album titled “The Remedy.” The first warm-up single from “The Remedy” is “Tip of My Tongue” featuring Slip ‘N Slide Records’ labelmate Trina and Gucci Mane. A second warm-up single, “Lay You Down”, was released before the “official” single titled “Baby”.
