France secured the golden trophy on Sunday winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Croatia. Social media couldn’t help but point out that a majority of the players are of African descent–the children of Muslim and African immigrants. France’s complicated history with colonialism is littered with islamophobia, racism and xenophobia–and social media took Sunday’s win as the perfect opportunity to point it out.
